We had the good fortune of connecting with Phillip Lewis (P. Lew) and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Phillip, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I believe risks are super important in order to succeed in this industry. The biggest risk I took in my career was moving out to LA with a couple hundred dollars on me and no plan to how i would make it– i didnt even have a place to stay when i moved.

Now, I’m sure there are much more conventional methods to chasing your career dreams, but if I never moved when I did, how I did, I would not have the career I have currently and I wouldn’t have been able to capitalize on the circumstances afforded to me.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I believe the storytelling aspect of my work sets me apart. It’s important to orchestrate a collaborative story between the director, stylist, HMUA, etc. in order to tell the best story. When you allow all the minds to flow together, it expands the boundaries of creation to such great heights.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite spot to have a recharge meal would definitely be The Carving Board. Love their sandwiches!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to show love to Jason Rivera, owner of Studio Stupendous in DTLA. One of the most hardworking and generous beings I know. Always giving out free game to people and giving back to the community. He played a huge role in jumpstarting my business and I wouldn’t be here without his help. Much Love!
