Meet Kirsty Parker | Music Producer / DJ

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kirsty Parker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kirsty, how do you think about risk?
I think being an artist is all about taking risks. The creative process is extremely personal. This makes it a personal risk to put your own creations out into the world — because what people are naturally going to like or dislike, is purely you. This is a risk all artists must take, the risk of being accepted or denied for their crafts. As a music producer, I feel this deeply every time I decide to release a record, or dj mix…or even on social media with photos and words. Everything I do is deeply authentic, and this comes with the risk of revealing myself to a world that doesn’t necessarily have to respond any particular way. What is great is that as I have continued to work on my craft, everyone seems to be taking it well! I feel so much support in my community, family, friends, and team. I think all the risks I have taken and continue to take are really taking off.
There is also a financial risk to choosing to do your art full time. I have been a full time music producer and dj for about three years now. When I first decided to quite my other job to pursue my dreams, I took a huge risk. Not only is it hard to get going with a music career financially, you are also creating a huge gap in employment which makes it more and more difficult to resume another career as you keep going. Overall I am SO SO SO thankful that this is working out. I hope that my music and art is inspiring other people, and making someone’s day a little better.
I take these risks because I really believe this is what I not only should be doing…it’s what my soul has to do. Something inside of me tells me that the risks are worth it…and that it is more important to show myself authentically to the world than to not.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have been working on my music production and DJ project ‘Speaker Honey’ for about five years now. Today, I am more sure than ever before about the direction I am going to take my productions, look and DJ performances….this makes me so excited for the future of the project! I am really starting to see my vision come to life, which is this fusion of a dark techno sound with a futuristic and colorfully neon aesthetic. My sounds are dynamic, vibrant, and yet somehow dark. Pairing this with cutting edge fashion and a unique look just makes sense.
I wouldn’t say that finding this rhythm between the sound and the image was easy; it just takes time. It is really important to take steps slowly, and know when you really vibe with an idea before fully jumping in. Don’t rush the process. Be authentically yourself, and don’t be afraid to take risks or do things that have not been done before. If you really believe and see the whole vision, keep working hard and it will all slowly fall into place.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, first of all, I know me and my friends are night owls. So our day would probably start in the afternoon. I would start the afternoon with German beer, a veggiewurst, and large serving of Belgian fries at Wurstküche in the arts district down town. I love sitting on the patio and watching the world go by. The L.A. arts district is always such a scene. I really love the way it has been growing over the past few years.
After that, I would want to hit up some shopping in the fashion district to catch some last minuet finds before the shops close down. You really can find just about anything there, and I love the creative energy of shopping for fashion.
Then, I would take a detour for some hookah in Hollywood. I love going to socialize around a hookah with friends and taking a pause to let the evening plans set in. The Blue Lounge is pretty fun for this.
After regrouping, I would hit a Sound Nightclub, which is close by. I love the lineups, atmosphere and people at Sound…and of course, the sound. I am someone who likes to spend most of the night at one party, and would probably get to Sound early and leave when it closed.
After that, it would be fun to find out if there was any afterparties. Most of the time, they end up being in DTLA, and we would probably stumble upon the right one as we socialize throughout the night. Since we started the day late, it wouldn’t be a surprise to end up calling the night around 6:00 a.m. 🙂
…this would be a pretty epic day.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First off I have to give a shout out to my manager Jess and the whole 720 team. I really would not have been able to achieve so much success as a music producer and DJ over the past two years without them. I really think their industry expertise and forward thinking drive has inspired me to work hard on my project, and assisted in more ways then I can have time to mention in getting me to where I am today.
I also need to shoutout my boyfriend Kevin Mullen. He was the first person to really believe that my project would work. He supported my decision to quite my previous job three years ago knowing that I would be the most broke I had ever been in my entire life, and still loved and encouraged me throughout the whole journey. It really takes a lot to believe in a music project, and it means the most when other people around you believe in it too.
Now not only does my family, friends and team believe in me…other fans and people out in the world do too! And that is so so important. I couldn’t have done it without them.
