We had the good fortune of connecting with Itsvoler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Itsvoler, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I am inspired by so many factors when it comes to making music. I am heavily inspired by the life my grandfather lived as he migrated to the USA from Dominican Republic in the 70s. According to stories I’ve heard, my grandfather first lived in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, later moving to Harlem. He was here on his own, so he was into the night life, romantic encounters with different women, and from the looks of it, he was very into fashion. I always kind of tend to put myself in his mind back then, and I’ve been able to create some stuff from that perspective.

I am inspired by all other artist. There’s nothing like listening to a song for the first time, and saying dammit I wish I wouldve came up with that. I first fell in love with music, watching my dad collect vinyls and tapes. From Sergio Vargas to Fania, my dad had this huge collection of music. By the time I was 6 or 7 years old; I was telling my mother to take me to the bootleg tape spot in Harlem, so I can start my own collection. Great music has always inspired me, and til this day, when I hear something that catches my ears; I turn on my mic and get creative.

Lastly, I am also inspired by my life and experiences. I’ve been through a lot with family, friendships, romantic relationships etc. I always think is so dope when I can tap into a specific moment, and create a body of work out of it. Is my bag of tricks.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My career has been a rollercoaster. I started as 1/2 of a duo called Eddy y Henry. In such a great run, we were able to get our career off the ground, toured USA, Canada, and Colombia. Also got a chance to collaborate with artist such as Nicky Jam, Fuego, and Notch. After many years of working together, we decided to go our seperate ways.

That’s when “Itsvoler” was born. Being part of a duo, when it came to my art, I felt more drawn into making sure I can make a song that will appeal to the biggest mass. As I stepped into beginning my solo career, I was seeking something different. I wanted to tap into all aspects of my creativity and develop my own sound, my own identity.

Being a rapper, songwriter, singer, and growing up in NYC, my creativity chakras were sounding off incredibly. From rapping in pockets similar to a Nas, to creating catchy melodies similar to Romeo Santos; I’ve been able to add everything that makes me an artist and mix it in a pot. I’ve accepted I am a artist of many facets and I do not limit myself when it comes to sound, genre, moods etc.

Music is the canva to my life. That’s where I paint.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
After the pandemic, a lot of greats spots have closed. However there are still some great spots to go to. If you’re in Harlem and have absolutely nothing to do, but want good drinks and food, I recommend Harlem Pub. Is kind of like my default go to spot if I’m hanging with the fellas. The Chick Inn has incredible food; and you can never go wrong going Uptown and hitting any of the bars up there.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shout out is to my circle. From my family, to my partner, to my best friend, that tight small circle keeps me grounded and always with my eye on the prize. No matter how much I deviate, they keep me grounded.
