We had the good fortune of connecting with Box of Beats and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Box of Beats, how do you think about risk?
I’m currently in the biggest risk I’ve ever taken. Since day one everyone knows me as the Beat Boxer who makes sick beats of all genres and in a way that’s helped me build my brand but it’s also ended up holding me back from moving in any one direction. It made me a novelty act rather than an artist. Last year I decided I’m going to leave that all behind and move into the Electronic Music Space. I’ve never rebranded before, and although the novelty act is what paid the bills and gave me a full time music career, it never felt complete. So I’m risking it all and making original music that feels more at home for me..
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from the next artist is my live production on stage. I feel like not many people are doing what I do. Live looping an entire EDM production live on stage, no back tracks, no triggering samples through ableton, just raw organic producing live. It’s takes a lot of skills and patience to execute that kind of performance.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to my favorite restaurant in Glendale, CA. It’s a Peruvian spot called Mamitas. Then I would take them to Matador Beach to spend some time in the sun.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My fans. I’ve built such a loving fan base and have always been so appreciative of all they have ever done for me. It truly is a marvel.
