We had the good fortune of connecting with Stacy Citron and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stacy, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risks can be investing money in an artistic project, quitting your day gig, or saying no when you always say yes (that’s been a tricky one for me to master).
Trusting yourself is what counts. You will get it wrong…a lot. It’s getting back up and taking care of your needs after you get it wrong (also when you get it right)! In today’s world it seems risky to take care of yourself- you are supposed to grind and hustle every moment, but rest isn’t a reward; it’s imperative. For everyone- artists and audiences alike.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
It’s hard to pick one I love more than the other because they also fulfill me differently.
I would say I got here with a lot of hard work, tenacity, risk taking and people who believe in me. I think I continue to be successful because I treat everyone with kindness. I’m a firm believer in the golden rule.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m also an avid hiker, so I would take them either to Fryman Canyon or Westridge in West LA.
I would then take them to petit trois in Hollywood followed by a show at Largo Theatre or Writer’s block at Hotel Cafe.
They would then have to play with my new puppy Lenny (Name after Lenny Bruce and Leonard Cohen) and have a marvelous Mrs. Maisel marathon with me- or Gilmore girls. (except for that last season *iykyk)
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wanna dedicate this to every artist I have worked with and every audience member that’s come to see me perform.
If you’re into books- I highly recommend Talking To Strangers by Malcolm Gladwell (get the audio book- it’s like part podcast and book).
City of Ghosts on Netflix- teaches you all about Los Angeles and the animation is fantastic. I may or may not have bawled my eyes out. *definitely bawled my eyes out*
Starstruck on HBOmax. I have an enormous talent crush on Rose Matafeo.
Yasmin Williams Urban Driftwood album is iconic and is always playing in my home. I hope I get to work with her soon!
Sarah Podemski is amazing on Reservation Dogs and also is a talented artist. She made me some beautiful dream catchers for my mom my sister and myself after my dad passed away, and they are a blessing to have in my home.
Colby LaPolla is one of my favorite producers. You can hear her music on selling sunset amongst other hit TV shows! She’s definitely a game changing producer, and is one of the masterminds behind my next single, so stay tuned 😉
