We had the good fortune of connecting with Nives Cicin-Sain and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nives, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The biggest secret to my success? Complete, unconditional surrender to the art of creating.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve been creative for as long as I can remember. Creating has always been my safe haven, my playful ground, and my home. What I’m most proud of is my curiosity and how I constantly bring new techniques into my work—sometimes I even surprise myself! 😊I finished art school, started out freelancing for the theater, and did fine art on the side. Later on, I got the official independent artist status backed by the Ministry of Culture. It wasn’t easy, but it was totally worth it, and I’d do it all over again in a heartbeat. I’ve learned to always give it my all—when you do that, you stop stressing about the outcome.I’m a sculptor who also draws, makes jewelry, creates light installations, and recycles a lot. There are no boundaries in creativity! Never give up on your path, no matter how strange it might look to everyone else. ✨

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My success is built by many. Those who supported me, and maybe even more, those who didn’t believe in me—because for me, anger and sadness always turn into fuel to move forward.
Deepest gratitude goes to my late mentor, theater costume designer Marija Maca Žarak. She shaped me with her relentless honesty and showed me, by example, how to be a true priestess of your Art.
It’s been 45 years since then. All over the world and back home, I keep meeting wonderful, inspiring people who always add another little piece to the mosaic of my creativity.
