Meet Koach Jay | Boxing trainer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Koach Jay and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Koach Jay, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I think the most important factor that has brought me success, is the hunger to just keep going and knowing i cant go back to where i was before. That will, that drive to be something, and someone better than before has brought me success in areas of my life where i felt uneasy, or not completed. Also the fear of someone telling me what to do again just to live paycheck to paycheck (not disrespect to the ones who do) i cant do again, i refuse to be on someone else time again, i was never good at it, i did it but i never had joy, always felt i had a purpose to do something else and I finally found it when i took a chance on myself

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
These Hands Work has been something ive been working on for awhile. The name took some time to put together but once i heard it & put the logo behind it, i was to excited. I was still working in a warehouse the time I was putting it together while in a EMT program, & training people on the side so it was definitely a challenge to make an idea become a reality.
The challenges ive had to overcome & still have to overcome is proving to others why i would be the better trainer/coach, putting out merchandise that will get people tuned in, or getting people to understand i dont work for them & im not on their time.
I want the world to know that These Hands Work is more than just for boxing, to me i want it to become a movement, to be talked about and seen as help to those who lack confidence in themselves or need a place to escape the world when it becomes to loud. The saying “These Hands Work” is not meant to be taken as a threat, but a simple message of just because i choose to walk away doesnt mean i can’t defend myself, or just because i may look a certain doesn’t mean i can’t defend myself.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If i had a friend pop in for a visit, i would take him or her bowling, even if they’ve been before. Bowling with the people i go with someone how turns into a party. Never not a good time with us. When it comes for food, its so many places i can name, but here’s a few i would take them to, Bossa Nova, Shogun, BBs Cafe, Perrys Joint, but its norhing like a home cooked meal.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to my family. I cant pin point everyone because i have a team behind me that supports me day in and day out. So this is for them, to them if you’re reading this, if you’re the one who has stood behind me since i first decided to do this, thank you for trusting me, supporting me, and love me through it all. I am nothing with you all.
