We had the good fortune of connecting with Mecyia Elaine and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mecyia, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
The most difficult decision I’ve had to make was to put action behind every thought that would contribute to building myself. It was scary to go within and truly understand my weaknesses as well as my strengths. I had to make a choice to push through getting a trade, working, and having my grandmother on hospice in my home. Making those decisions to strive for the best out of life is what she wanted for her grandchildren. The decision to move forward and grab life by the neck was truly inspired by her and my mother.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art consists of fashion and it’s incredible influence on the people. Finding beauty in what goes on our temple is amazing to me. I love that, what that looks like varies from person to person. What sets me apart from others is finding new and inventive ways to represent fashion and create content. I have this 90’s vintage/ futuristic vibe that I like to tap into from time to time. I see myself as a chameleon in a sense you know. I love to explore new looks and use myself as a canvas when I’m on the journey. I’m proud of the evolution that beauty and fashion has come to and I’m excited for the unknown actually. Lots of research and resilience were my two main ingredients getting to where I’m at now. You know if you let being told no stop you from chasing your vision, then you’ve let outside forces dictate your choices. I don’t view anything as easy, however I do think it’s simple. Challenging but not impossible which is beautiful when you really think about it. I overcame challenges with internal and external coaching. My mother always spoke life into me and that encouraged me to speak life into myself. The big lesson I learned was to view yourself as high as you could in the world. I feel this makes room for others to view you on that level also. I believe not one person has the ability to deplete my value and that staying true to my being is unmatched. I want the world to know that I advocate for self preservation and awareness. Aware of the fact that we deserve to live confident, bold, gentle, etc.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First we brunch! Cause why not, food is the gateway to the soul. There’s a nice spot in Downtown Los Angeles called Joey DTLA . There we can enjoy a flavorful lobster ravioli or one of their signature cocktails. Next we can head to Venice beach and rent bikes for an hour to cruise along the side of the ocean. The following day we get close to the nature by heading up to the views. There’s an area just outside of the Griffith Observatory where you can see all of L.A. it’s absolutely breathtaking being so high up on the mountains. After we can visit one of the local taco trucks and grab a bite. For Dessert there’s a variety of churro and chopped fruit stands! On Wednesday we can head to Hollywood Blvd to meet lots of new people and do some souvenir shopping. Hollywood Blvd is an excellent place to see some interesting attractions as well as people. After spending the day exploring Hollywood we can stop at 25 degrees which is a fire burger spot with great crispy fries. Thursdays we can get breakfast, I’m very fond of the Blue jam cafe. You can expect amazing Egg Benedicts and freshly squeezed orange juice. After I would use the rest of the day prepping to experience the nightlife the west coast has to offer. Total Vibes! The nightclubs in LA offer more space than I’m used to and Sunset room is one of my favorites. Friday we can visit Echo park and rent a ride on the swan boat. This brings a nice relaxation to the day. I would do a little picnic in the grassy area and just enjoy my company. Following Echo park we can visit a dispensary or two to browse options for additional vibes lol. I would wrap up the visit we will make one last trip to Santa Monica Pier and experience some of the attractions!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The most important person that deserves credit in my story is actually the author, my mother. Without her strong guidance and unconditional love I would have never been shielded with the armor to navigate here. Her mentorship held much more weight that the default title of being a mother. I would love to dedicate my story with grace and appreciation to her.
