We had the good fortune of connecting with Candace Dalton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Candace, how do you define success?
I love this question because I am constantly thinking about what “success” actually means. I believe people have dreams and goals and if these dreams and goals are met, then heck yeah, it’s a success! But since I have been asking this question to myself quite a bit, I ask myself, “what is success”? Even if you have all the money in the world, it comes down to a few basic important necessities that make the definition of “success”, in my opinion. As a kid, do you remember finally receiving your favorite toy or clothes during the holidays or for your birthday? It may have given you excitement for a while and feeling like a boss! And then after a while, the toy and the clothing’s worth just dwindles down and soon enough you find the toy in a toy bin with the other toys you once thought was the best thing in the world and your clothes are in the back of the closet or in a donation bag. The worth of these must haves, slowly fade away. So what’s really success? “If you have food in your refrigerator, clothes on your back, a place to sleep and shelter of over your head, you are 75% richer than the world.” -therepublic.com It’s so easy to get caught up on social media and see other peoples “successes” and feel not worthy enough or that you’ll never have the big bucks in the bank. But do you wake up every morning remembering how lucky you are to be healthy? To have slept in a comfortable bed with a roof over your head? And if you are even luckier to have AC or heat? Oh and to go to bed not hungry? How SUCCESSFUL is that? How successful are we to have clothes on our back and shoes on our feet? If you get to travel and expand your mind to different cultures.. you my friend, are the most successful. And lastly, if you are loved and give love, then you are the richest of all. So in moments that I feel that I am not successful or don’t have a huge bank account and I don’t have the perfect house I want, the cars I want, the vacations I should be having, the luxuries, I remember, I am successful everyday with the basic necessities that are not so basic, but so successful.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I don’t work in corporate America, I don’t have a 9-5 job, I don’t work for anyone else but I do work for the After Life. I am a Medium and I did not ever expect my life to be where it is today. Most people get asked the question, “what do you want to be when you grow up?”, I honestly had no idea. I am such a planner who needs to have plan A, B, & C ready to go but for some reason, I was way too relaxed during high school and could give two craps of what career I should chase for the rest of my life. I do believe in everything happens for a reason, so at age 19, my world changed when a production company from Los Angeles came to Boston, Massachusetts (where I am from) to film my family and I for a TV show about Mediums. From there, word spread very fast all around the New England area about my gift. Soon enough, I was doing events called Healing Messages From Above of 50-200 people. I would read as many people as possible during the event and bring through their loved ones who have crossed over to the other side and give message and comforting validations. It was not easy to always navigate this medium life. Many, many times I have questioned myself, “How am I suppose to do this the rest of my life?” It is incredibly mentally and physically draining to raise my energy to connect to the Other Side. There were many times I battled bouts of deep depression and I would have to muster up all of the energy I had, to put on a comforting happy face and bring people hope who were grieving so heavily. Working under someone, being told what to do, having to ask for vacations or time off, sitting in traffic or getting up insanely early, will just never ever work for me. I had to remind myself I am so lucky to set my own schedule and to go at the pace I needed to that week or that month. Without fail, Universe and God always have my back and help me or show me what I need when I need it. I had many moments where I had to sit with myself and quiet my mind to ask myself and universe, how else I can help people with their grief but not break my brain trying to read the world? I created an oracle deck called “Healing Message From Above”, which is a 44 card deck that allows you to pull a card and receive a validating and comforting messages from your loved ones in heaven right from the comfort of your own home. I also created a podcast called “Healing Grace The Podcast” which I named after my grandmother, Grace. She had died a few months before my podcast launched and she is the queen of grace and love in my eyes. She was constantly helping people, opening her home to those who needed a place to sleep, food was always on the table for those who were hungry and always, always praying for everyone. I am finding new ways of helping people with grief & loss and I am excited to announce I will be launching an online course in the upcoming months for those who have special gifts but aren’t sure how to navigate them! Being an entrepreneur, you have to be patient, truly actually trust yourself and allow yourself to make mistakes in order to learn. I have learned I cannot please everyone. I am such a people pleaser. I want people to be happy. I always want harmony and I want people to love me ( and not in a conceited way). I have learned that not every day I am going to be on my A game but if I give it my best and give all of my love, then I cannot go wrong. Tom Brady doesn’t always have a good game and neither can I!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I were to have a best friend visit California, I would first off make sure that they got to experience the best food!! I would make sure I brought them to Nobu in Malibu or Pump in West Hollywood. There are so many hidden gems in Los Angeles but the experience and the food at these two restaurants are to die for. In Los Angeles, you can drive ANYWHERE and hit the beach, the mountains or the desert within just minutes or hours. I would first take them to Zuma beach in Malibu or Manhattan Beach. This would be a perfect start after a long travel where my friend could unwind and relax. They will be shocked to know the Pacific Ocean is freezing AF. If I were to take them to a secret spot, I would take them to the hot springs just two hours north of Los Angeles. No, I can’t tell you where it is, it’s a secret! Being able to bask in Mother Nature and all she has to offer is one of the most priceless experiences. Speaking of mother earth, I would take them to Yosemite to experience the untouched nature and the most amazing energy Yosemite has. Lastly, I would take them to Palm Springs for a get away into the heat, visit a spa, have drinks by the pool and see the magnificent stars one does not get to see in the city!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am so lucky to say that I have many people I need to dedicate my shoutout to! First and foremost, if my parents never accepted me for who I am, then my foundation would never be set properly. Without their love and always cheering me on to help other people, I wouldn’t be fully myself. I love you. My other foundation for success is to my auntie Maureen & cousin Anastassia who also have the gift of being Mediums. Without them, I would most likely feel lost in this world and feel like a total whackadoodle! My life long friends who knew me before I came out of my spiritual closet and continued to stick by me without question. Shoutout to all of those who believe in me, spread the word to others to experience my gift + those who follow me and support me at my events, social media & podcast! Shoutout to the dead! Thanks for choosing me to be your conduit! Last but not least, the love of my life, Elando. I always dreamed of having a significant other who would just get it, who would be so proud to say my girlfriend is a Medium, who would attend my events & but also love me for just me. You bring me back to earth. I love you. (and shout out to our dog Nala who can’t read this, but is our world!)
