We had the good fortune of connecting with Cheyenne Griggs and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cheyenne, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
‘Everything happens for a reason’ is a quote that I live by. Life throws multiple different experiences at you every single day and a lot of it is uncontrollable. This quote allows me to keep my focus forward and to stay out of a victim mentality. I believe that all experiences (the ugly and the magical) are lessons for expansion and growth. Don’t allow an experience/situation to hold you by your throat. Take charge and sit in the presence of God, knowing that there is a reason for all. We might not know that reason at the time, but through your journey, the puzzle pieces begin to fit together and make sense.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a vessel of creation and am limitless. I am not just a dancer, a writer, or a choreographer but a vessel that creates from the flow of God/source.

I have just self-published and released my own poetry book called ‘Clarity from Within’. It is a collection of poetry about my inner journey of connecting with my soul. The book is divided into three sections of healing, transforming and becoming. It takes you on a journey of the awareness that you aren’t separate from your soul and that you can’t find something that was never lost. I am very proud of myself for this book.

My family, friends and mentor’s love and support have been a big part of getting me to where I am today. They have always seen a light in me even when I wasn’t able to see it, they have offered a couch for me to sleep on when I was at my lowest point, they have pushed me beyond comfortability to help me step out of my shell. I truly don’t have words to describe how grateful I am for these beings. I also owe it to God/source. On the days when I couldn’t see the light, I would feel its presence in my heart and know that better days are to come. I also thank myself for taking the time to understand who I am and taking the step to rip off the layers that no longer resonate with the being I am today. Patience, faith and trust have been the essence of getting me to where I am today.

I want the world to know that taking the time to know yourself, your true self is the key to unlocking all that you could have imagined. So many beings are stuck in a mindset/perspective that truly isn’t their own. Take the time to discover your authenticity, your own beliefs, your own voice. Bring your authenticity into this world and stop hiding behind false walls.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is the vibe, If I was your tour guide in Melbourne.

Day 1:
‘Welcome to Aussie Land’ is the sign you would see me holding as you walk out of the international terminal. First things first, I would get so excited seeing you sitting in the passenger seat of my car (as it’s the driver’s seat for Americans) and we would go home so you can meet my Nana Bingo and family. My family all live in the same suburb so it is an easy trip going from house to house, but be prepared to be bombarded with hugs and questions. The day ends with you getting a good sleep because flying is tiring.

Day 2:
Today will be nice and chill. I’ll drive you around and show you a lot of my childhood life, taking you to Pacific Epping, my primary school, my favourite park etc. When we are at the shops where going to get a boost juice. Hands down the best smoothies I have had and it’s definitely a toss-up between Banana Buzz and Mango Magic of being my favourites. We can either have Nandos or Schnitz for lunch, your choice. For the night we will go see my friends and spend the night just chilling and playing some board games, pool or whatever we decide at the moment.

Day 3:
It’s a beach day, the weather is smashing and we are out the door by 10 am. Rye is an hour and a half drive, so we are blasting some good tunes for the drive. About halfway there we pull off at the servo, take a toilet break and grab a coffee. We get to the beach around 12ish and set our stuff up on the right side of the pier. Rye is the childhood beach that I would go to every summertime with my cousins and friends, such a beautiful environment. We’d spend the day enjoying the sun, swimming, tanning, jumping off the pier and just having fun. At dinner time we’d go grab some fish and chips and drive around to Gunnamatta ocean beach to eat and watch the sunset. Rye carnival is on every night during summer, I’d take you on my favourite ride the ‘breakdancer’ and we can go on whatever other ones you fancy. We have to end the night with some ice cream from vulcano and then make the trip back home, praying we didn’t burn as badly as I think.

Day 4:
Today we will go and explore the City and stay at the Crown for the night. I’ll just park the car somewhere and we will walk and venture wherever. Go check out flinders street, Melbourne central, the state library and we can catch the tram also. Lunchtime I’ll take you to this Italian restaurant called Vapiano, the pasta is magical. Check-in is around 3ish so we will head over and put our things in the room and see what we feel like doing before the footy. (In an ideal world the football and rye carnival would be running in the same week) Hawthorn (my team) and Geelong are playing at the MCG at 7.30 pm. We will walk over and enjoy the game. AFL is like no other and is very entertaining, the atmosphere is also very energetic. Half-time we are going to get a good old meat pie or a sausage roll and the night will end with hawthorn winning the game and one of us catching the football that the players throw to the crowd at the end. We’ll head back to the apartment and decide if we want to go out and hit the town or stay in and relax.

Day 5:
We’ve put our things in the car and are all checked out by 10 am. We’ll find a nice little brunch spot and eat a good breaky with some coffee. If you are down, we can go check out the museum and the botanical gardens. Head home and get ready for a night out. When I go out I usually start at a spot and then go where the night takes me. I’ll take you to bar up on Chapel street and then we can just go from there. Melbourne’s nightlife is always a vibe.

Day 6:
We have options today.
1. Go on a hike or 1000 steps
2. Go and take a dance class, not until later in the day
3. Go eat lunch at a park

At night I’ll take you to a lookout where the planes fly right above our heads and we can get some food from the food truck.

Day 7:
Wake up and go say goodbye to my family/friends and get you to the airport (at least three hours before departure) because I don’t want you to miss your flight.

Hands down Melbourne is a place you need to tick off of your bucket list. If you ever need a tour guide and resonate with my energy, hit me up and I will take you to all the good spots.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I do want to dedicate my shoutout to a book called ‘Be here now’ by Ram Dass. This book has transformed my life, both internally and externally. Through this book I was able to find peace in the present moment, the here and now and appreciate everything for what it is, the here and now. This book took me on a journey of reflection and to this day I still continue to read it when I am feeling out of place with my inner being.
