We had the good fortune of connecting with Du’Shawn Hausley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Du’Shawn, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Since the age of 5 I have always been the creative and artistic business child. I used my creativity from writing music, hairstyling and making art to inspire others as I created a stream of income. As I matured and began developing my mindset, I turned my focus to solely on building a legacy through creating a custom lifestyle which encompassed music, art, clothing, and more. This came as no surprise to those around me and my family. They call me the “Renaissance Woman.”

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Being an entrepreneur is not for the faint of heart. I decided long ago that everything should include my family. My family is involved in building relationships, creating art & music, and making business decisions.

Our decisions are more than business, it is about creating the lifestyle we desire. There are times we also have our own things that we work on apart from each other. The big picture is never lost because we realize that what we do affects each other. It has never been easy, but anything worth fighting for comes at a cost. We have invested money into pivotal lessons for the next leg of the journey. We learned every lesson completes a course that is required for the opportunities ahead.

I’ve had to face some personal challenges so our family could overcome together. There was a time when I left the music business due to previous challenges and heartbreak. What helped me “GET UP” was the constant encouragement from my family, despite the pandemic, and many challenges we were facing. During my lowest moments, I could not just throw in the towel.

The biggest lie is feeling as if what you have to bring to the table is “Not Important” and/or “Not Enough.” During pandemic, I saw the huge opportunity to grow, expand, and create. The most famous people we read about made their marks in history during the worse times. So in 2019 we shifted as a family to build our family brand, 2020 our family completed one of our first big art projects along with a few personal ones, and 2021 I released two music videos and my first inspirational album, “Relational Grace.”

What sets me apart from others is my ability to see opportunities despite challenging situations and maintaining relationships while growing as a family. In today’s society some people make it to the top by being cut throat and burning bridges along the way. I have been able to read about people who I admire and now have some of them as my personal friend.

I am most excited about the new music videos upcoming, our youtube channel ShoneyTalksLifestyle, hubby and I building our podcast called “Life With The Sloans,” and our family business as Black Collectors gaining more notoriety. Black Wall Street and the rebirth initiatives are something we are very passionate about. Our central message of Black Excellence and Legacy is something you will see in everything we do.

I want the world to know that the most valuable real estate we all have is people. God loves the world so much and desires for all of us to come back to the Father no matter what place we find ourselves in. Last but not least, I want families to be inspired and impacted by my family to create their own custom lifestyle.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m from Philadelphia, PA. If my bestfriend were visiting, aside from the amazing historical views she would see, I would definitely take her to Harriet’s Bookshop and Uncle Bobbie’s Coffee & Books. A day there would definitely be enjoyable but still give us time to catch up!

Being a lover of plant based food I take her to try Bar Bombón which has Latin American Vegan food for lunch and Delasandros, which has the best Philly Cheesesteak ever made, for dinner. At some point in the day when the line was not crowded we would swing by Tranzillis for waterice and pretzels with american cheese and mustard. This experience would make her a fan of Philly forever.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to shout out my husband, children, and parents. They continue to believe, encourage and support everything that I have put my mind to. I am their number one fan and to have that same support means everything.
