We had the good fortune of connecting with Shannon Comstock and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shannon, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’m a pretty risk-averse person, and I never would have taken this leap were it not for my now co-founder, Heloise van Eeghen. We met while working at the same PR agency, bonding over Pad Thai delivery during (too many) late nights at the office. We realized we both were looking for a few of the same things in our careers: the ability to choose the brands we represented and the people we worked with, autonomy over key strategy decisions, and some semblance of work-life balance.
What should our readers know about your business?
We say that Note PR is bespoke, transparent, and impactful, and those are the tenants we strive for every day. Many brands that come to us say they felt lost at the bigger agencies, or that they were simply plugged into an existing strategy, and because of this they appreciate our hands-on approach. We represent everything from indie startups to leaders in the industry; regardless of the company’s size, we end up being as involved as an internal PR team would be. It’s been so rewarding to grow alongside our clients!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I moved from Brooklyn to Westchester County a couple of years ago, and while we miss the city at times, it’s been so fun discovering our new town. I’d start the day with shopping at SCOUT, a new beauty store founded by celebrity makeup artist Jenn Streicher, then visit the Ward Pound Ridge Reservation for a beautiful hike, and finish off the day at the Bedford Post Inn for steak frites and a cocktail!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Jennifer Meyer, founder of Jennifer Bett Communications, deserves many shoutouts! A few moves before founding Note PR, I worked there as a Senior PR Manager in the Beauty & Wellness division. Not only did I learn incredibly valuable skills in PR, but Jenny has become a mentor of mine as a business owner. I so admire what she’s built at JBC, and love that I can call on her for advice.
