We had the good fortune of connecting with James Knox and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi James, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Born in Lynwood, CA but brought up and raised in Compton, California. I always had an entrepreneur mindset and goals since a very young kid. Founded in 2016 I began a Media and Talent Management company Round Group Entertainment LLC. When I first started out, my passion for “Making Stars Shine Bright” is what drove me to start my own business, and looking for a way to begin creating generational wealth for my family. However, I didn’t stop there. Founded in 2019 by myself and business partner Maurice Jones, RGE Cares has done so much for the community. Coming from a strong non profit background having worked with Robin Petgrave and Tomorrow’s Aeronautical Museum, RGE Cares is backed on that same mission with providing resources for underserved communities. Growing up in the City of Compton, there’s not a ton of opportunities for the kids in the communities and we set out to be the change of his community. At RGE Cares we aim to inspire, motivate, and with area schools, one-on-one tutoring, and college preparation. When a youth joins RGE Cares, they not only join a family, but become part of a cultivation process designed to empower them to excel in their personal, academic, and future professional lives. We believe this is how you change a community for the better—by bettering the next generation.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
None of this was easy, ya know? I didn’t come from a line of entrepreneurs so I didn’t necessarily have the guidance to get a head start with starting a business everything was all trial and error. I heard 1,000 no’s before I got my first yet and it’s been great things happening ever since.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Honestly, I love being in Newport Beach. Just everything about that city is a great vibe. Alot of great food places so I think that would be the goto spot.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
You know I couldn’t have done any of this especially kicking the charity off without the help of my family, our former director of operations Shalese and my business partner Maurice Jones. You know in the beginning it was tough getting companies to get involved with a charity that had no background or even existed until 2020, for that I thank the entire management team at Buffalo Wild Wings in Cerritos, Chuck E. Cheese in Cerritos, Michelle and the Chick-Fil-A traffic circle team, Dani who previously with FootlockerLA along with Paulina and Lorena who are currently still there, and Seamus and Carter with Puma as well as the entire Fly Compton Aeroclub team. All of those people took a chance with us in the beginning and have supported us every since.
