We had the good fortune of connecting with MeMe Myatt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi MeMe, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
By the age of 5, I was sure that I wanted to be a singer; and by the age of 7, I knew that I also wanted to be a songwriter — this was also the age I wrote my first song entitled, “Somedays”, using the melody of Janis Ian’s “Seventeen” (I had heard it in an infomercial one night). Although I cannot pinpoint a singular moment of confirmation, there were multiple that affirmed this dream of mine, e.g. my parents and neighbors being impressed with my vocal ability at a young age, my performing my first song in front of my extended family, and their being surprised that I had penned a quality song on my own, etc.

With that said, my “why” is the fact that it has always felt right, even when challenging, i.e. learning a new song, starting formal vocal training, etc. It has also helped me to understand myself and my relation to the world — listening to and studying the music of the past and present has informed me of who we are, what impacts us the most, etc. Ultimately, my musical passion has made me a more well-rounded human being — therefore I do not take it lightly.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
If you listen to any of my songs, you will be assured that my musical influences are a lot more mature than I am. As a young singer, mimicry is what I relied on to train my voice. However as an adult, my vocal chops are an embodiment of what I feel works best for me and the music I compose. I am most proud of the two EPs I wrote and produced on my own — I am proud that I stepped out and created in a way that I see fit. A big part of where I am today is heavily attributed to consistency and exploration of where my voice and lyric writing can go. I also found a great local producer and multi-instrumentalist by the name of Chase Jackson, who has helped my songs come alive.

One of the most impactful challenges I have faced is my being inclusive of the wrong people while trying to accomplish my goals. It taught me to stay focused, but to also make sure that my collaborators are well vetted, and not opposed to putting an agreement in writing. I want people to know that I create in earnest, with an aim to bring great multi-range vocalists back to the forefront — so check me out if you’re about that life!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my parents and brother, who have consistently supported my artistic career, as well as, provided constructive feedback in order for me to improve and enhance my skills.
