We had the good fortune of connecting with Camilla Bartoli and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Camilla, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Growing up, I always had a big imagination and I always enjoyed creating stories. I often had my mind go places where others wouldn’t even think of going. When I started editing short films in high school, I realized how much I enjoyed the editing process. It was a perfect fit for me as finding ways to make all the pieces of a story fit together challenged my creativity, something I always strive for. The process of editing is a continuous learning process that pushes you to adapt to every project you work on. This challenge continued to captivate me so much that I decided to pursue it as a career. In any field and career path you’ll find challenges, especially in the arts, however I believe that as long as you do something you love you’ll be motivated to push through any difficulties.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Something that I realized helped me to get to where I am today, are all the references from people I worked with. I love it and really appreciate it when a new project comes my way because someone gave them my name. It gives me reassurance to see that my work actually helped them tell their stories and that they would recommend me to someone that is trying to do the same. I am big with collaboration and love to understand and push the vision of the director I work with. A short that I am very happy with entitled HALLELUJAH which premiered at Sundance 2022 and won best narrative short film at RiverRun Film Festival, has just been accepted into Palm Springs International Film Festival. I am currently a full time lead assistant editor for a show, but I keep editing on the side and I am very excited with everything I am working on. A documentary I edited is also going to come out soon which was directed by Michael Cavalieri about the Carusi who were Sicilian slave mine workers. There is a lot I am excited about and I can’t wait to see what comes next.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
LA is well known for its film industry and the incredible weather, so if my friend had a week to spend here I would probably bring them to a studio tour (Universal, Warner Bros, etc.) and of course to the beach. If I go to the beach, I often go near Malibu because I prefer the ambience there. There are also many interesting museums to check out, but for the short amount of time I would say The Getty and The Academy Museum. I am also a big fan of sports so any games would be a fun experience ( the Laker, Dodgers, Rams, etc.). If this friend also enjoys hiking there are so many places I would love to bring them to. The main ones for a tourist would be Dante’s View Trail at the top of the Griffith Park and the Paseo Miramar trail which shows a great view of Santa Monica. Lastly but not least are the incredible food options you can find here. From the Mexican food at Tacos Tu Madre, the pastries at Porto’s, the Chinese food at Din Tai Fung, the ice cream at Salt & Straw, and the sandwiches at Gjusta there are so many great options. One week is definitely not enough.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I completely agree. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the help and mentorship of my family, friends, teachers and coworkers through the years. I would mainly like to give a shout out to my family who has been supporting me since the start and believing in my dreams to pursue a career that takes effort and time to break into. I also want to give a shout out to Matteo Fantuzzi who has been by my side through thick and thin. He has been there for all the ups and downs and has always believed in me and my work. He even had to deal with starring in all my home movies as I started experimenting and exercising my creativity. I also have many friends and mentors that have helped me grow into the person and editor I am today, but there are too many to name in this article. I just want to say that I will never forget the help I received and I will always be thankful for it.
