We had the good fortune of connecting with Yanique The Consciousness Doula and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yanique, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
Yes there is! One of my absolute favorite quotes is by Henry David Thoreau. It says, “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you have imagined.” For me, this quote affirms that we receive our dreams and imaginings as guidance. Thoreau was an advocate for individuals tapping into and living from an empowered place of liberation. My work at The Consciousness Doula is in this same vein. The work of helping us birth a new reality is about helping us realize that our reality starts with us. Each human being walks around with and continues to recreate the reality that is known to them. Often we must look to our dreams and imaginings for inspiration about how things can be different. Thoreau encourages us to not stop once we have dreamed and imagined but urges us to go in the direction of them. To move toward them with an attitude of confidence and through doing so bring them into the world as our own lives. I love the boldness of the quote and the fact that Thoreau himself did this exact thing. He created in ways that were different from what the majority at the time were doing and as a result, he made discoveries, created timeless art, and expressed his understanding of the world in authentic and unique ways. That’s how I aim to walk my own path.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My work as a Spiritual Facilitator is first and foremost about being present with the needs of the moment. When I’m working with participants or creating offerings staying connected to the present moment and allowing spirit to flow is the basis of how this work unfolds effectively. I’ve said before that my open book approach is what sets me apart and I still believe that to be so today. My open book approach means being clear and open about the fact that as a Facilitator I hold the space for participants to do their own inner exploration and move toward their own truth. Though the energy healing, insights, and clarity may come through me they must be nurtured and continuously cultivated by each person in their own daily life. I got to where I am today through trusting Spirit and being obedient. It may not have been easy but it has been 100% worth it. I overcame the challenges that came up on the way through honoring myself, trusting my journey, and allowing my community to support me wherever I needed it. I want the world to know that I, my brand, and my story would not be what it is without the potent and powerful work of prioritizing my spiritual wellness. The Consciousness Doula is here to help usher in an era of that recognition for all beings.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting Los Angeles (my best friend is actually a native Angelino, but let’s say they weren’t haha) we would start every morning with a yoga class at Yoga Yoga in Newhall ~ because high-caliber self-care is the best way to start the day. During her trip, we would definitely go for a hike at Stough Canyon in Burbank because I adore that trail and the views, and I’d get to show them all those cute little stores on Magnolia Blvd after grabbing some pastries from Portos. We’d take some time to do some touristy things like go to The Grove but we would get to have breakfast at the Dupars over there, the pancakes are phenomenal and do some shopping at the Farmers Market. I went to University at Cal State Northridge and I would have to take them to Bun Me on Reseda ~ their food literally fueled me through my last two years of University. We would indulge in some shopping at Skylight Books and I wouldn’t be able to resist taking them for dinner at Silverlake Ramen!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many folks that have contributed to my ability to do this work including my husband, family, friends, and teachers. Elyse of Soul Makeup was an intricate part of my journey. My work with her taught me to trust myself and my gifts and commit to the reality I’m creating through my work. My local yoga studios Yoga Yoga and Serenity Hot Yoga have provided safe spaces for me to practice and education that has given me both empowerment and clarity on this journey. The book The Power of Now and the teachings of Eckhart Tolle have also been instrumental in my spiritual growth and evolution. Nature and my community of guides and ancestors have aided me every step of the way. I have so many people to thank and know that this work, and the way it flows through me, would be impossible without them.
