We had the good fortune of connecting with scotty Coats and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi scotty, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
I think the most important thing for me as a parent is trying my hardest to see the world through their eyes. Your kids are not YOUR kids, they are their own people. It’s challenging but I try to remind myself to put myself in their shoes and to not force my agenda. I’m still learning but I try hard to lead with love because even love is in need of love.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am the vinyl marketing director for Capitol Music Group which consists of Motown, Blue Note, Capitol Records and Virgin Music. Honestly, I wonder how I got here every day so I am not sure how to answer this one. When you love something so much it consumes you and music has always done that for me so naturally I gravitated to a career in music. When it comes to the LBC HERO SQUAD, we tried to fill a void and help others who may have been overwhelmed like we were when our son was diagnosed with Autism at age 2. We wanted to let other parents know that we understand what they are going through and be a resource or an open ear to listen to their stories. By joining forces with other parents we have built a small but mighty team who I feel have made some real change locally.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We live in Long Beach which is one of the best cities in the world. So many great bars, restaurants, record stores, skates shops etc. Not sure where to begin honestly. Starting the day with a little Carne En Su Jugo at Canadas on Anaheim is always a good time. Head to retro row for a beer at Pike Bar, walk to Cherry Park before spending hours at Fingerprints Music. End up at Hawk Bar for a nightcap and wash it all down with some Al Pastor Tacos from the truck across the street. If we have time for a road trip, we can always visit our bar we just opened in 29 Palms called Out There Bar for a little disco dancing in the desert heat
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My wife and my way better half Jennifer Chalida Coats. Without her I don’t know where I would have been. As much as we drive each other nucking futs (I hope I can say that) we love each other and will always be there for each other. Also The LBC HERO SQUAD, Super Skate Posse and Watts Community Core
