Meet MAYICE Marta Alonso Yebra & Imanol Calderón Elósegui | Arhitects and designers

We had the good fortune of connecting with MAYICE Marta Alonso Yebra & Imanol Calderón Elósegui and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi MAYICE, what is the most important factor behind your success?
When we first decided to create our personal brand, our own firm, the main idea was that research and creativity should always be a part of our projects. It all came about in a very natural way. We are architects, and frankly, after working for other national and international firms and seeing the lack of creativity in the processes, we felt the need to create our own firm and brand—a place to experiment. We started slowly: building wooden furniture, also working with glass, light, materials; all of this was documented and
presented to the press and other media. Our image gradually began to gain recognition. The turning point—when everything changed—was when we presented our designs at Rossana Orlandi, the collection of crystal chandeliers for the Granja Royal Glass Factory. This image helped us reach brands and companies that wanted to work alongside us in the creative
process. Since then, we have worked with brands including Mini, Land Rover, Campari, Simon electric, LZF, Gandía Blasco and the Suzhou Silk Museum, among others.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We always spend much time creating actual prototypes. Whenever there is an exhibition or a small ephemeral space, we like to test the project and build it in our firm so we can reflect and continually improve. We tend to work with abstract concepts based on the needs of our clients to provide an aesthetic solution, always respecting the true nature of the materials.
We get really involved in all our projects, both personally and professionally, and perhaps for that very reason, provided that the client is also involved and willing to work with us, our designs and projects have that essential human component.
We believe that the client’s involvement in a project is just as vital as that of the team responsible for building it and bringing it to fruition. A good team makes for an excellent project and outcome.
