We had the good fortune of connecting with Denny Pascasio of Gutterdoodles and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Denny, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
I’d have to say a favorite quote that has been throughly resonating with me recently, is one from the great Jeff Koons.

“…Be at the Service of your work.”

I’m for sure shortening and minimizing Jeff’s masterclass teachings, but along with that quote he also said, ‘say yes to opportunity’s to show your work!’

Since the beginning steps into the journey of my “art-capades”, I can’t help but always be campaigning for ALL to “show & share their art!”

I say this because, I know and have met so many wonderful artist of the world. Who create such awesome worlds of art, and would contribute so much to the great growing art world! But don’t participate, in it at all really.

Sometimes it’s cause they suffer from perhaps being a bit shy, or maybe don’t know where to start, some seek perfection, or are just their own worst critics and stifle their works growth!

But a majority of the time, it’s more like the “where do I start?”… and I’d have to say for me, the sharing and showing was the start!

For a long time I, myself had this kind of lost start thinking. There was a long stint of time I created things and pieces, and quite literally just sat on them! I knew I always wanted to share these characters and pieces from my cluttered world of doodle-brained creation but, never knew where to begin!

One day, I just said to the heck with it all, and opened my “gutterdoodles” web window to the (social media) world and started really just sharing and showing my work!
And actually, from that sharing and showing, came the genuine ‘opportunities’ to share and show my work more!

And with this, without me realizing it… I was being at service to my work, helping my creative garden grow!

That’s why, I always tell my friends and fellow artist to not be afraid to share, and say yes to show their works. The natural connections you build, and positive powerful energy shared through the language of art is unmatched. And at times it can feel like there’s no key to unlock it, but YOU are the key! The minute you twist the knob open on your creative door, comes only more great artful draw bridges, paths, and doors that open for you to journey!

Us artist are always for artist! Remember that!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My mind feels like an idea cluttered gutter, on a roof of emotions and feels! And when I get to working on my art, and commence to pull things from out that idea cluttered scape; that overfilled gutter. I usually tend to pull out way more than expected, and wind up with a spilling abundance of creative works!

Kind of like, when you go to pull that peeking branch from out of your gutters, and suddenly a surprise mass of knotted up old and new leaves, sticks, gunk and other things coming ripping out with it…. That’s my art.

But then lace that branch’ with a love of laughing, a heavy influence from strong consumption marathons of Nicktoons and Cartoon Network! All while tied with hours of eyes being crossed against the pages of Calvin and Hobbes, Garfield, Foxtrot, and X-men comics! Not to mention my love for Street fighter, and the over the top animated dialogue served with action from the Power Rangers and Ninja Turtles!

Shuffle in a fascination with the people of the world, and the many differences in all the daily “movies of life” we live. In short but long, all of this encompasses the type of energy my art/gutterworks’ are colorfully flavored with!

As far as where I’m at today, I’d have to say I got here by surfing the waves of good energies, a consistency to spill work, and taking the leaps on new paths outside my comfort space!

It’s been a lot of going with my gut, and letting my heart connect with those the universe sprinkled in my direction. Sharing my work and ideas, while using my gift to help make others I’ve connected with’s, creative visions become a reality!

So being open and going out to share my work at pop-up shows, exhibits, and creative events for all walks of the world. And being allowed opportunities to complete heartfelt commissions that uplift, or spark some great nostalgic feels, inspire, or bring out genuine smiles, keep me going and where I’m at today, for sure!

I really enjoy giving praise, big energy, and hype to all things that are creative and positive in this world! Because frankly, that’s what we need more of! We need more folks to tap into that creative element within us all, even if it’s not exactly making art!

Like for instance, say you just like to make sandwiches for a hobby or creative vice, then hot diggity dog!
I want to say, “HEY, KEEP ROCKIN’ THOSE SANDWICHES! YOU’RE DOING AWESOME! AND SANDWICHES RULE!!

There is no wrong in creative encouragement. And honestly, the world needs more of it along side with, more things that do that! That’s what I like my work to represent! Even if it’s a knotted up cluster of colorful random toonish characters! Those figures colors, words and feels are to encourage with a smile, motivate some creation, and inspire with positive color!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Just the landscape of the desert alone, can be a gift for the spirits and self! No lie! The mountainous views, the freckles of palm trees, the architectural awesome that’s strung to the nature so splendidly! Sheesh, and the sun rise and sun set will, whisper colors to your retinas, you never didn’t know possible! That’s just what a regular ride is like!

But, for sure the Palm Springs Art Museum is a must! It’s a maze of creative amazement, and art history! The atmosphere makes you feel like you’re moving through a large art piece yourself!

And to keep the art fueled energy going, a trip to see the glorious works from my family and friends at the Perez Art District,

My super Art knowledgeable friend and artist Sean at the Galerie Perlita and Museé d’ Art Moderne in El Paseo! The incredible pieces they have, and Sean’s awesome art intelligence just mend together for a grand time! And ya come away with learning something about art history that sticks too!

As far as food goes, ya got to end a day of flavor like that at Ruben and Ozzy’s Oyster Bar & Grill for some tremendously good seafood and a michilada! I’m not trying to sound like a commercial at all or anything! Reading it back it hilariously sounds like one! But I truly say with my art and doodle fueled heart! It’s the stop!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Well first and foremost, I have to thank my royal lady and partner Liz! She truly
plugged a battery in my gutter’ art
brained back with support, love and
wisdom! The loving combination of all that
she’s given and shown me, really has cleared a motivating path of organized
ambition, that made a lot of things
possible! Truly!

I also have to say thanks to all my real supporting friends and family back in NY and out east! Back there is the weighted foundation!

And another big thank you to all of my grand creative desert and coachella valley family! From James at Kingsrideshop, the whole Perez Art District, Dazy at CVMeetups, Gustaf, Sean, Sammy, and all walks of life I connect with out here! Y’all all truly inspire me daily!
