We had the good fortune of connecting with Ariel Molina and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ariel, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
Richard Feynman, a pioneering quantum physicist, in his lectures titled “QED: The Strange Theory of Light and Matter,” stated once,

“The theory of quantum electrodynamics describes Nature as absurd from the point of view of common sense. And it agrees fully with experiment. So I hope you can accept Nature as She is — absurd.”

In an effort to confront and understand “Nature” through my art or really, simply by experiencing life, I have come face to face with the absurdity that permeates everything quite regularly. There’s absurdity in politics and economies, in art-making and relationships, in technology and time. Feynman was certainly describing Nature as a thing of physics and mathematics, but I think absurdity holds a very real presence in the conjured world of humanity too. I’ve taken this quote as a reminder that I, a manifest outsider, can connect with the world through my art as a product of Nature’s absurd fidelity.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
“I bear my art from an unconscious field, through solvent love, and into existence. My art is evoked through a rhythm or breath.”

Since 2017, I’ve largely focused my art on the subject of femininity. I hold the belief that there is a connective divinity that fastens everything in the universe together, from subatomic particles to the vast webs of matter in the universe. Since my earliest explorations of art, archetypes of femininity have always emerged as the channel for that belief. Also since the beginning, I have explored my art through computer-generated mediums. Growing up adjacent to a digital world, it’s become intuitive for me to translate the spirit of my art in this way; digital collages, animations, and portraits. But I do want to say, I am eternally learning who I am through my art! My art is always providing lessons to me, and I think I have yet to discover an unwavering voice through her.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A little over six years ago, I moved to Seattle from Miami without knowing anyone, and spent a year living in solitude. I met my ex-partner, and current best friend June then, and through her I was able to come to a place within myself to recognize my worth, my artistry, and my identity. I want to shout out June for all of her support throughout these years, for showing me warmth in the same way a family member would, often more than my own family, and for providing space for me to be who I really was. It was through her that I could experience my life as a freer person. Thank you, June! I love you!
