Meet Krysti Lyn | Whole Home Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Krysti Lyn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Krysti, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
My life circle is an interesting yet exciting one. I did not come up with this idea unfortunately . My amazing career was dropped on me at the young age of 7. I was a child actor from five months to thirteen years old. My mother would take me to her friends for what I thought was a visit and chat about my latest project but, I found out after really awful tea why I was there. My mother would ask me what I thought of her friends living room. I quickly responded. “The focal point should be this and obviously those too large items are taking up way too much space etc. My mother knew that I had a very special gift. What was that gift? The gift of seeing in scale.
Seeing in scale is a designers superpower, What it means is that we see things for how they fit in a room verses merely their contribution to the design esthetic.
I have been super blessed to be apart of this industry for over 20 years or so. In closing, I didn’t ask for this, however, I am very grateful to be able to do what I was put here to do everyday for the people who need me!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I focus on a transitional design aesthetic. I love to mix and merge design styles and periods. I’m versatile with endless design materials to consider, I always choose right for my clients, That’s probably how I got to where I am today.
I most definitely had to work hard to get to where I am today however, there were many challenges. My personal and work life was interrupted by domestic violence. That incident taught me to stand up for myself, refocus on my future and I have learned to also say NO” With hard work, I came out on the other side better off and more determined!
My goal is to continue to be the authority on design options out there for my clients. I am dedicated to bringing products, options, tools and the newest styles merging in my industry.
My work with my clients makes me stand out amongst others. I am most proud of the amazing timeless design that I am able to provide for my clients. While what I do for people and their homes might seem easy, It comes with great responsibly and trust. Those two components are the two most important things needed to do what I do.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was to come here to LA to visit me, I would be tickled pink. The first thing I would do after picking her up from the airport is take her to In and Out Burger. That would quickly get that off the list. After taking our lunch to my place we would sit and eat and and play old school and R&B. Our next stop on her trip would be a three day staycation at my house in Palm Dessert where we would just live in the hot tub. I would arrange for private massages and we would dine on amazing charcutier and Malbec Red Wine. We would fly to Vegas for a night or two and see a show staying at one of the luxury hotels of course.
I find the real fun lies in the small quaint hid-outs where we can catch some improv or a murder mystery dinner. I would then drive her to Malibu for breakfast to take in the amazing hill to views. For my interesting people, HOLLYWOOD! That would do it….smile. There is a infamous celebrity cemetery from what she has heard so we going there for sure (if it exists) and finally I would introduce her to as many of my clients as possible. See Kathy is not only my best friend, she has been my faithful assistant, confidant, road dog, accountant, critic, pain in the ass, advisor, judge and jury, auntie to my kid and more. She is one of the reasons that I am still here providing incredible options for my incredible special amazing clients. Damn, now I miss her!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am sad to say that I had no mentor and I learned early on that I had to stumble through this thing with prayer and faith. I did have one instructor who notably wrote a famous Modern Furniture Resource Book at my design college (Harrington) where I hung of with the teachers more than students.
However, if I wanted to SHOUT OUT anyone, It would be Harpo Studios, who after thanking me for my participation in “The Ugliest Room Contest” was probably the first time I felt understood and appreciated in my early works.
