We had the good fortune of connecting with Quentin Hill and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Quentin, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I was 15, I had $112 in my bank account and it was time to buy Christmas gifts. I was offered a job at a golf shop that would be minimum wage and required 6 weeks of training. I loved the game of golf and felt as though I had the knowledge to compete with them. I founded “Convenient Clubs” that winter with the goal of offering customization of golf equipment without the steep price point. To date, we have serviced customers in 48 countries through our e commerce site. Convenient Clubs is now a subsidiary of Qhill Enterprises, which owns 3 businesses and a charity.
What should our readers know about your business?
Between the ages of 15 and 20, I founded my first two businesses which I still own today. Both are in the sporting goods industry, with one selling custom golf clubs and the second selling sports jerseys. Earlier this year, I was able to aquire my third business, iliac Golf. Iliac was founded in 2005, and I met the CEO by chance in 2015 on a driving range. When he heard that I had committed to play golf at SDSU, he offered for me to model for iliac in exchange of free clothing. I did this for six years, and in the end of 2021 I ended up purchasing the company from him. iliac (www.Iliacgolf.com) prides itself on selling only the highest quality golf accessories and clothing. As for our leather goods, we have a process like no other to ensure the highest quality. We purchase our leathers from Italy, which are then shipped to Carlsbad, CA. We then take those leathers and make each leather piece by hand in Carlsbad. We still use the same factory for this process that the company was first founded in back in 2005.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
At the moment, I’m a workaholic. I’m still just about to start my senior in college at San Diego State, while running the three businesses and trying to maintain my health and relationships. I enjoy any social setting when I have the chance, and I’m actively working on a better life balance.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I truly have too many people to thank regarding where I am in my life. My parents raised me in a way in which they rooted for me regardless of what my interest was at that time. My friends are all extremely supportive. People who I have met through all walks of life are now business partners and investors.
