Meet Gareth Stehr | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Gareth Stehr and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gareth, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Im not sure if there was much of a thought process haha. I just feel like I have always made art in some way shape or form and I just started trying to have more shows. Started working on better art. Started trying to have solo shows and put my name out there as a fine artist.
risk taking: I think taking risks is a fun part of life and that it creates bigger and better and more interesting opportunities. I moved here to LA from New Zealand when I was 18, that was a bit risky and I was here as a professional skateboarder which is a pretty risky sport haha. So definitely I feel like risk has been a big part of my life/career.
Habits:
I think the best route to the best habits is just to love what you are doing and love what you have chosen to pursue. And if that love is truly there you enjoy working every day and putting the hours in and striving for your best so yeah you are paving the road to success.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
coming from a skateboard background I always loved art and being creative. I took art at school in New Zealand and I think like other artists I have talked to teachers and school hated my art haha. But I kept up with making stuff and eventually started just a piece here and there in group shows here and there then groups shows into better galleries and eventually the scary/exciting day to have your first solo show. I like that my art is constantly evolving and can seem different from one show to the next but will always have a feeling that it was one of my pieces.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oooof good question. Well I guess bars would be my first choice to hang out and have fun and see friends and catch up with other friends and have a boogie. So a few of my faves would be El Condor great food posi vibes and dance groove times, Thirsty Crow is a fave ask for a Garry Starzz, Footsies is another old fave ..they have lost the pool table but now have karaoke on Mondays so that’s a great start to a good week. Snack time .. go check out Burgershewrote opened by a good friend and the best burgers your gonna find in LA.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Id like to dedicate and put this shout out to my Friends and Family. After having a traumatic brain injury last year it was friends and family who picked me up and helped with the support and love and positive vibes to make new and better art.
