We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacqueline Pruitt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jacqueline, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process was to be my own boss and be able to provide career opportunities to those in need.

What should our readers know about your business?
I have a rebar subcontracting business. What sets me apart is that I am the only known Black Woman owned rebar contractor. I started my career as an Ironworker apprentice in 2009, completed the apprenticeship 2nd in my class, became a Foreman and then a General Foreman before taking and passing my contractor’s license test in 2016. Going through the apprenticeship was easier physically than socially, but I had a goal from the beginning to have my own business, so I trudged. I learned that what one calls a disadvantage, is an advantage with hard work and determination. I want the world to know that I am the only one that can keep me from reaching my goals and self-esteem is obtained by completing estimable acts. The more I heard she cannot and will not, the more it fueled me to reach the finish lines.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am a golfer, and that is what is fun to me so we will definitely go to Top Golf and maybe a couple of nice golf courses. I also like to eat Mexican food and Steaks so we would go where this food can be found. This time of year is hot and we would also go to the beach and a swimming pool. To be honest, my best friend would be the one planning the week because that is how our friendship is.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
