Meet Marion Maclou | Actor & Dancer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Marion Maclou and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marion, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I have my own definition of taking risks. As human beings, we are always in the search of a comfortable zone. Whatever it is, wherever it is, it could be easy to get in, but hard to go out. Taking risks is having the courage to step out of the comfort zone to pursue a career, a dream, and others. As an actor and dancer, the risk is in the job. Being exposed to the public, or on social media is getting exposed to critiques, bad reviews, insults, self-esteem… But sometimes the risk is more psychological. Like many people, I am afraid of failure, but I recently discovered that I am also afraid of success. This little voice inside me is whispering “And what if something great happened and change everything you already have?” Well, I decided that it was time to show this little voice, that I was capable to handle changes, and at the beginning of January 2022, I decided to open my YouTube channel and post my dance video on it. Since the beginning of the year, I received applauses, compliments, sweet words, encouragement, and good reviews. Today I have good opportunities that were brought because of my exposition on Youtube. I am proud of myself for the risk I took, for showing my little voice that taking risks and stepping out of my comfort zone helped growing up as an artist and as a person.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am an actor and a dancer. My art is to create and share emotions and stories. Today I can say that I am proud of myself for never giving up and for having the courage of stepping out of the shadow. At the beginning of this year, I posted my first dance video on my YouTube Channel, and today I collect more than 300K views on it. And I am so excited to post my new video. Dance is a part of me, and when I create a choreography I put my soul into it. It is my way to express myself and my feelings. Showing it up to the world is more complicated than it seems. It is showing up a part of me that I usually keep deep in myself. It is like showing the world your deepest feelings.
I did a massive depression when I was in high school. The French system is putting a lot of pressure on teenagers to choose their “forever job.” Choosing to be an artist and finding my path helped me to rebuild myself. From this period of my life, I changed my way of thinking. There is no “forever job,” so do whatever makes you vibrate in your life.
A lot of people did not believe a second in me, and my projects. Starting with me. I am my first and worst judge. I describe myself as a perfectionist, and I am never 100% satisfied with myself. I accept that today because it makes me want to work harder and harder every time. This personality trait never avoid me to be proud of myself and what I am doing.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The first thing I would do is eat! As a French girl, food is really important! A wonderful brunch at Republique on 6th and La Brea. Once our stomachs are full, let’s start visiting LA! The Academy Museum is the first good step in the City of stars. Following with the Warner bros studio tour. For the first night, what could be better than a sunset on the beach? And to continue the night let’s get some drinks at The Bungalow. The most beautiful sunrise is definitely on Griffith park close to the observatory or the Hollywood sign. There are great events, concerts, and ballet in the Hollywood Bowl. To spend some energy I would either take a HipHop class at the Playground studio or hit the baseball ball to Strikezon. To finish another night with a wonderful sunset on the rooftop of the E.P & L.P with great music, food, and cocktail. It is a little example of enjoying the little things of life and visiting Los Angeles.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I will not be that original, but I have to admit that the first people I want to thank are my parents. They put me in dance shoes when I was a kid and made me discover my passion, and what brings me alive. They were a pillar during my hard period of life, and they supported me when I chose what I wanted to do in my life, and when I decided to move to the other side of the planet. And today, my family is still behind me, and they are sending so much positive energy to each project I am in. I could not be who I am, and where I am today without them! One of my first dance teachers has a special place in my heart. Her name is Raymond, and she is the nicest person you could imagine. The reason I name her here is that she makes me believe in myself dance-wise. I have had this little problem with my hip since I was born and despite this inconvenience, and what doctors could have said, she always proved to me that by working hard I was capable of doing great things.
The last person I will name is my life partner, Nicolas. He is the one that supports me every day, and let’s be honest it is not that easy. More than that he help me bring all my creations and my projects alive. Without him I am not sure I would have post any of my video on YouTube.
