We had the good fortune of connecting with Paola Alvarez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Paola, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
The habits that I’ve had to incorporate into my daily life have been working out, meditation, listening to podcast, reading and writing down what I am grateful for. Working out has it helped me on so many different levels like staying healthy physically but also mentally. It has helped me build discipline which I lacked growing up and even as an adult. It has also helped me build patience. You don’t get results over night and working out is proof of that. Meditation, has been one of my favorite things to do. When I feel mentally exhausted or at times I have a hard time shutting my brain off before bed Meditation really helps me slow down my thoughts and focus on the present moment. It helps me think straight. Listening to podcast and reading books related to mindset, growth and healing are my favorite. I’ve created a gratitude journal in the beginning of the pandemic before starting my business I wrote down all of the things I was grateful for and the reason why I was grateful. This has helped me become more positive and optimistic about life. It humbles me and at the same time it helps me thrive for more things to continue to be grateful for. I also attend business seminars and conferences related to. I surround myself with people in the industry. Put yourself in location and situations with likeminded people. Growth mindset people.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

I started working on my business in the beginning of the pandemic. Before that it was a thought but never took action because I was full of fear. Fear that I would fail. As time went on I started to work on my mental, spiritual, emotional and physical health. Working on all of these things would prepare me for any obstacles thrown my way. I started to build enough confidence to not care what people would think of me. To build enough confidence to go after my vision. To create a space for content and ideas. Most importantly to just go for it! It wasn’t easy I was working a full time job, single mother with limited funding.

I’m the beginning of 2022 I decided to quit my job and follow my dreams of becoming an entrepreneur. It was a huge risk. I went from working 9-5 having stable income to not having any income. It has been a rollercoaster of emotions but I know it’s all a part of the processes. I’ve learned that there will be obstacles along the way, there are times when you’re going to want to give up and rethink that you’re on the right path but those are the moment you really have to slow down and take time for yourself. Reflect and remind yourself that it’s all a part of the journey. I’ve also learned that you cannot care about peoples opinions about you. I’ve noticed that people will not always see your vision and that’s okay. They will say things to create fear in you and wont support your choices. That’s when you have to believe in yourself the most and block off the negative. Keep pushing and don’t give up!

Pretty P Official mean a lot to me. I created her in the middle of one of the hardest times of my life and also many others (2020). When the world felt like it was coming to an end I decided to get out of my comfort zone and go after my desires. The letter P stands for Positive, Passion and Powerful. That’s what I want women to feel when wearing my clothes. I specifically handpick the fabrics and quality of my merchandise.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The most fun, interesting, places to check out in my beautiful city of Los Angeles I’m my opinion are the observatory in Griffith park, I love hiking so Runyon has he best views and a variety of hiking trails. Zuma beach is a must. Universal studios/Citywalk. So much funnnn! Places to eat will have to be in&out of course. La Fonda de don cuper has the best pupusas in town. We would go to Cana rum bar in DTLA and last but not least go watch the lakers play at the crypto center.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shoutout first and foremost God. Without with him this wouldn’t be possible Marley and Makai (my kids) my why and my reason for choosing to go after my dreams of having my own business. I want them to be able to give them a better life than I had and I want them to believe in themselves no matter what.  They have been extremely supportive and understanding through out the process. I wouldn’t be here without them. Also my mother who has been very supportive. My dear friends Alexandria, Michelle and Latanya. You girls believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself. I want to thank the calm app for my meditation sessions, jay shetty for your amazing podcast that has helped me with becoming more self aware and Niko (my dog) you have been my emotional support buddy. I love you all.
