We had the good fortune of connecting with Jocelyn Solomon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jocelyn, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
Consistency in effort and showing up with curiosity have been tried and true strategies for me in all of my endeavors. Our lives are made up of a million different choices throughout the course of each day. All of these choices can either support or thwart the quality of life we are seeking- from our thoughts, how we sleep, what we eat or drink, how we move our bodies, with whom we choose to spend our time, on and on. So while these small choices may feel inconsequential or mundane, in the collective they gather to create how we experience life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a former criminal defense trial attorney who channels all the skills that made me successful at that career into how I coach and advocate for my sober and sober curious clients. As an attorney, my job was to advocate and empower my clients who were victims of unjust systems.that ultimately deprived them of their freedom, encasing them in literal four walls. My sober curious clients find themselves encased in metaphorical walls – finding themselves in a life that feels stuck, uninspired, unhealthy, or just blah enough that they know there is a better way. I am deeply passionate about empowering my clients to know that they have an absolute birthright to joy and clarity, REAL joy and clarity. A life of intentional health and purpose is made up one moment, one decision at a time. I am twenty-five years sober myself – that journey was not linear, simple or easy. It required digging into the muck and deep excavation. I am proud of that work and strive every day to be an example to the world that chosen sobriety does not mean we are losing anything — in fact, we are awake, alive, clear and don’t miss a moment of our lives!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a Venice girl and prefer to hug the coast and be outdoors as much as possible. If I had a bestie visiting, we’d likely start the day with a strong cup of coffee (Alfred’s or Intelligentsia on Abbot Kinney) into a long hike in the Santa Monica Mountains (Westridge or Paseo Miramar). We would definitely want to eat after that and would likely land at Sugarfish or Alfalfa, my new favorite place to grab a big salad on Main Street in Santa Monica (I always get the Best Coast Salad). We would definitely go to one of my yoga classes at YogaWorks on Main Street (these classes are also live streamed) where I will have curated a super fun playlist with that friend in mind (I grew up in the 80s making mixed tapes). If it’s a sunny day after class, we would walk straight to the beach (probably Tower 26) and dives into the ocean. How I choose to spend each day is a direct reflection of who I am and what I consider important – time with friends, moving my body, good music, nature, healthy, delicious food and drink. Joy is the goal. Even in the midst of shitstorms or challenging times. Especially then.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
One of the greatest lessons of my life thus far has been the profound understanding that, while we can do hard things alone, why would we, when moving through all things from the challenges to the celebrations are a million more times meaningful, effective, rich, and even fun when done in community. I have always had a collective of brilliant and loving women friends, chosen family, who are my greatest source of support. We chose each other back when we were girls in high school and to this day they are my greatest inspiration – real life women, raising families, creating fulfilling lives, willing to slog through the mud together, hold space when one of us is hurting, and celebrate all the moments in between. It is this model that supports how I run my sober curious groups – a collective of wise, curious women who are hellbent on creating the most engaged, mindful, and meaningful lives.
