We had the good fortune of connecting with Liam S. Terlecki and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Liam, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think risk taking is something we should see as a way to move forward. Taking risks with something unfamiliar can leads to serious benefits and offer new experiences. Taking risks means you believe in yourself and your abilities. It means challenging oneself so you can become better. Taking risks has given me a plethora of experiences in media, entertainment, and has fostered who I am as a person.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My interested in film and TV all started when I was in high school. I really enjoyed gaming, I still do and one of my favorite activities was to livestream the games I played. People from all areas of the world would tune in to watch and hear what I was playing and saying. Streaming made me feel like I built a community. I continue building my brand on YouTube throughout high school; I enjoyed creating and managing my own content so much, that I decided I wanted to study film and TV in the university setting. Early in my undergrad, I would always work as a PA on projects with Juniors and Seniors. I took an interesting in working on Senior thesis projects as well, I thought these were great environments to learn the language and work ethic of film sets. I meet so many people I still talk to today. As I progressed in college I took interests in the role of Assistant Director and Producer. I enjoy making complex projects readable and simplistic. Every set I was involved in, I did my best to ensure that it was a safe, positive and inclusive work space for all people. All to often was I and others I’ve worked with subject to toxic work environments and avoidable mistakes. I wanted my projects do better. As a Producer, I took the necessary time and steps to understand what was needed on my productions to ensure everything was in accordance with city and state guidelines. I would always make time to meet with every single department head to understand what problems we might face while on locations. How I saw producing is that by doing my job meant other people on the project would succeed, creatively speaking. I realized that even though the Produced was the main factor in what assembles a production, other people were on the project for a reason. Whenever a production head would come to me with a problem or request, such as wanting more funding for Production Design, or Camera needing more funds for batteries so we could make our days during overnights, I would need to listen to them and determine how I could help them most. As I’ve stepped into the world of freelance filmmaking, I’ve found that many skills I fostered as a student producer have importance in the professional world. People still need help on sets despite their years of experience. Though I spent so many days and hours ons set during my undergrad, there is never a moment where I won’t ask a question about. Something I’m unsure about when on a professional set. There are so many difference to a student project and professional set, but there are also many similarities too. My time in school and on student film sets provided an excellent starting point in my journey as a freelance filmmaker, but as I go forward I will never forget to be kind, to always persist and to maintain my attitude of problem solving.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Both of my moms have served a major part in my life. They’ve always challenged me to aim for the best, to be kind, to never settle for something less. They helped me believe in myself and what I am capable of achieving. I’m so close with my moms, I know it can be difficult for some people to connect with their parents, but for me, my moms are my best friends. They always make time to hear what problems are on my mind, when I need advice, or am anxious about something new and unknown. They teachings, insight and wisdom will always be something I’ll continue to hold.
