We had the good fortune of connecting with The Roof and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi The Roof, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’d say we are one of the lucky ones where a pastime turned to a passion, and In order for us to pursue our passion to the utmost degree, the natural evolution was to create a brand around the music. In other words, we had to make money from our craft so we didn’t have to compromise our creativity.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We think that great art comes from personal experience, because if all you’re doing is creating, the well is going to run dry eventually, unless you’ve transcended and you’re fully in flow for eternity. We haven’t hit that yet, so the space we fill in between songs, usually always yields some trials and tribulations, which turn to songs for us. There are a million and one metaphors for the eternal circle, but basically we believe it’s not only light, and dark, but all the shades in between. Just knowing that the peak of a wave will always come after its trough is enough to get us through the dark most of the time. We do a good job at conveying our personal experiences honestly, through the music, and we are an eclectic democracy so we have a broad array of individual influences that allow it all to be more accessible when it comes out via frequencies. We have found that communication is king, and we(humanity) are all related, so we just want to prove that by unifying as many folks as we can through song. We are mostly proud of meeting all the dope people doing dope shit along the way:)

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We have never been to LA, but we’d love to make the trip, so we’ll read other interviewees responses for guidance! We can however offer insight into our hometown, which is State College, Pennsylvania(Home of Penn State University)!

As far as best all around food & drink experience, Happy Valley Brewing Company wins, hands down. Craft beer that is worth braving a gluten allergy over, vinyl nights, the best live music in town, and the most exquisite food that a bar could be associated with. It’s an old school feel(the building is a 200 year old barn), with the most youthful service.

If you wanna hit a dive bar, with cheap drinks & more good music, hit Zeno’s.

Cafe 210 West is also another great staple State College bar. One for the college kids. Get their famous spiked tea pitcher.

Best bartender in town is our great buddy Eric Medina. Ask for him at Central Diner.

Go to Webster’s Cafe for coffee, gluten free meals, & the best records/books/vintage clothes around!

As far as outdoor endeavors, you wanna visit Rothrock State Forest for killer hiking/mountain biking. The Arboretum at Penn State is also sweet if you like giant sun dials & lots of plants.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Hmm…there have been so many moving efforts in our seven year(& counting) story that it would be impossible to give thanks to every catalyst, but since you guys are all about small business, we’d like to thank our three favorite. Happy Valley Brewing Company(State College, PA), Celestial Wellness(Winston Salem, NC), & Rip Roaring Adventures(Hartford, TN). They have all become extended family, and most. Importantly they love what they do, and it shows. If you are ever on the East Coast and get the urge for some beer, weed(CBD & Delta 8), and/or whitewater rafting, these are your guys. Celestial Wellness ships as well so you don’t have to visit to get the experience:)
