We had the good fortune of connecting with Jared Colton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jared, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own personal business was solely based off the idea of being able to control and direct things particular to how I would prefer certain things to go. In the past, before I had broken off to create my own LLC, I was told how much I am being paid by this person and that person. Not being able to control my own worth seemed constricting to me as far as growth and personal branding preference.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started as a model back in 2018, signing with New York Models out of Manhattan. That decision projected me towards the path of the entertainment and content creation industry. Shortly after booking many of my own modeling shoots, I found my love for the other side of the camera. Around 2020 I started putting my full energy into film and faded away from the modeling scene. Since then I have worked with fantastic clients as a filmmaker such as Truly Seltzer, Jos. A Bank, and so much more. To get me to this point and work with notable clients, I networked the city of Pittsburgh vastly and utilized my social platforms to expand business for myself. I feel like the ability and knowledge I have to complete every aspect of a project sets me aside from many people. Most, if not all projects I curate are entirely done by myself as a creative director/camera operator/editor. That being said, the business is expanding this second half of 2022 and taking a few other photographers on to build a team and offer a more in depth production.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If someone were to visit me in the city of Pittsburgh I would take them for food and drinks in Lawrenceville and enjoy night life. My personal favorite part of the city is the gold bridge aesthetic and Acrisure stadium, formerly known as Heinz Field. Steelers football culture is very prominent here and the culture is strong and prideful. On top of that, the Steelers have the best brand in all of the National Football League aside from the Raiders.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to accredit a shoutout to Red Dot Studios film and production company for heightening my talents within the field of modeling and especially film/photography.
