Meet Effy Han | Bilingual Chinese actor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Effy Han and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Effy, what role has risk played in your life or career?
1–I used to equal risk-taking with recklessness, not anymore. I think our willingness to take risks reveal how much we think we deserve. High self-worth comes with a strong trust muscle. In this sense, taking risk for me, now, means trusting myself and stepping toward what I want, moving through this world with a playful nature, a willingness to explore. 2–I took the risk of following my desire of being an actor, traveled to the U.S alone, fly straight to LaLaLand…and 6 years after, still here, grow more and more confidently into my artistic self. So, taking risks has allowed me to found my joy and peace, and that, worth all the hardships risk can bring.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
1–I vow to be so valorously vulnerable, so you see me, and know I am you. — I say that, not just as someone coming from a different culture, but also as the person who, for so long, believed myself to be different in a negative way… that is not true, of course. As I traveled and interacted with more and more people, I see us having more similarities as human-beings, in spite of nationality, gender, race or anything else. And we’re better people when realizing that. So I choose to remind us of that, again and again, through acting, story-telling. That’s the job of any artists, isn’t it? —to put a middle finger up against any narratives that move us away from our humanity.
2–Bilingual Chinese actor; Martial artist; Motorcyclist. Based in LA.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
DTLA art district, great place to walk around, look around and get inspired!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Narayana Cabral–stunt performer, worked in major projects like Anything anywhere all at once; Westworld etc. Not only is he a great performer, he’s also an amazing movement coach, he helped me put together my stunt reel.
Ewan Gotfryd–Emmy winning director/producer, talented comedian, and a truly kind person. He helped me tremendously during the process of obtaining the artist visa; he showed me the film industry can be a friendly place if we choose to offer help.
