We had the good fortune of connecting with DINER and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DINER, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
The music industry is one of the toughest in the world and I have been through the wringer. It’s so hard to know if you’re wasting your life on a pipe dream or if you’re doing the right thing. I put my entire life into music and its the only thing I’ve ever seriously pursued since I was 9. I wake up every other day wondering if I should just give up, becuase I’ve only had about a handful of great experiences/moments in this 15 year pursuit but for some reason I just can’t stop. I don’t know why. I think you never really know whether to give up… you just have to take it day by day and follow your gut.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
This journey has been definitely the hardest thing I’ve ever had to go through… Ive been through countless managers.. a 3 state wide fraud case… I’ve had my album of 2 and a half years taken from me.. Ive been forced to start over with nothing I want to say at least 4 times now… Ive realized how resilient I am.. My brand is about just being your average girl next door.. no matter how big things could get… I’m just your local diner girl.. After I lost my whole album this year in January I decided to join a rock band and we had a month to write an entire show for a set we had lined up at The Whisky a Go Go.. The show ended up being one of the best nights of my life and I realized Rock needed to be the core of everything I do from there on out… Now I’m starting over on a journey to make this rock album… Its really hard to start from scratch all over again but I know i’ll be able to pull something off eventually.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There’s a little mom and pop owned bike place in Santa Monica on 4th street… this lovely couple owns it and they always bring their dog Brodie.. but I believe its 25 bucks and you can rent a pink cruiser for the whole day.. and I bike down from Santa Monica to Venice.. and get a margarita pitcher at the whaler and I make sure I take all my visiting friends because its one of the most fun/good for the soul activities out here. Also the iconic Barneys in West Hollywood is a staple..

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My Mother, she was a punk rock star back in the day… she was in one of the first all girl punk rock bands and I would like to think she kind of revolutionized music and style for women.. .. the freedom to yell and speak your mind and be “crazy”.. She toured with Black Flag and has been one of my biggest inspirations growing up.. I never knew how I had this extra rebellious side to me. being that I grew up in my parents diner working there since the age of 5.. it makes sense because its in my blood.
