Meet Taylor Mosby | Film & Digital Wedding Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Mosby and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Taylor, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“Whatever energy you put out is the energy you get back” When starting a business or even just keeping the boat going, you cannot expect people to always come knocking with half-measured efforts. It’s a conscious decision everyday to put energy, effort, and keeping service the number one priority with my business. This means thinking about the customer, not myself, and seeing how I can best help them. When I feel like my business is slow or I’m not getting the bookings I want, I connect with other photographers, I work on my website, I ask a friend to do a funky photoshoot – it’s all a part of the process in getting to where I want to be. I am not there yet, but it’s a marathon and not a sprint. Trusting the process helps keep me patient. I am always surprised at the opportunities that come my way when I do the work. Small, consistent, thoughtful steps go a long way.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My business is rooted in service. This means timely responses, strong communication, delivery of photos on the committed time, and being kind and helpful on location. When I started to take my business seriously, I had to take inventory of what was working and what wasn’t – this is still an on-going process. What I found was consistency & keeping it simple is the key to my success. Small, quality steps each day are the stepping stone of getting to where I want to be. Staying accountable is also key. Mess up? Make amends. Self-awareness is an important quality to keep growing and staying connected.
My creativity is rooted in authenticity. Remember when I told you that mom took the most beautiful photos of us kiddos in our childhood? She never posed us. She captured the essence of our being and painted the picture of how it felt. That’s what I do. I use photographic skills & light to capture what happened so you can look back and remember. They say that “your wedding is the last time in your life all your friends and family will be in the same placer positive reasons. The next time they’ll all be together is your funeral” – Hani
This means it’s not only worth celebrating, but worth remembering. It’s important to find a photographer that can take that job on with grace and creativity.
Curious by nature, each wedding is a new opportunity to tell a unique story. Because each wedding is special, I approach it with a new set of eyes as apposed to having a script or an outline of “to-dos”. Remaining flexible is necessary for creative flow.
Using different photographic mediums such as film and digital help me curate a beautiful and deeply meaningful story to cherish.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Let’s start strong with a run/walk down the San Clemente Beach Trail and finish with a snack and smoothie at North Beach Juicery. We can rent E-Bikes or take surf lessons. We have the most beautiful coastline and it’s worth checking it all out.
Dedicating a day to Laguna Beach is a must. We will find a cove to chill at before strolling around and window shopping. Having dinner at Gu Ramen is the best way to finish the day. Oh and let’s walk over to Gelato Paradiso for the most delicious gelato.
Next day let’s grab coffee Hidden House Coffee in San Juan Capistrano. Check out the local antique & thrift shops. Trevor’s at the Tracks is ideal for dinner. End with dancing & drinks at Swallow’s Inn.
I think we should drive up to Los Angeles, wander around LACMA, take in the views of the Griffith Observatory, and end with a music show at the Greek Theater – memories to last a lifetime!
South Orange County is a gem. It has small beach town feels with the attractions & entertainments of a big city.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Oh boy. I have met so many people along my journey that have left bread crumbs of inspiration & support. Personally, I want to shout out my mom. She is the most hard working woman I have ever met. Aside from being a single mom herself with her own successful business, she carried around a Canon AE-1 in the 90’s to capture the essence and magic of my childhood. My mom has Alzheimer’s disease, and I get to hold these photographs today to piece together the questions of my youth – they are a gift. Her creativity and strength inspire me daily. Oh and by the way, I still use that camera today – so my clients get her magic too. Professionally, I want to thank fellow photographer, Jes Workman. I reached out to her on instagram after drooling over her work for a long time – her openness & willingness to support little ol’ me has truly made an impact on how I approach relationships and business and photography. She lets me ask questions and be confused and lets me follow her around at weddings. Grateful for all the people!
