We had the good fortune of connecting with Davonté Burse and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Davonté, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I have always been both artistic & creative. I recognized this at an early age. Growing up I didn’t always feel seen or heard. I didn’t always I feel like I had the space or opportunity to share my thoughts, ideas & gifts. So if the last several years have taught me anything, it’s that life is short, do everything you enjoy and embrace new opportunities. I want to experience people, places and things I never have before. I want to be an experience to others myself. That’s why I pursue my career.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am both an actor and a chef. So when I am not acting, I’m in a kitchen and vice versa. I have such an individual passion for both forms of art. I am at a place where acting full-time is the goal but my talent and skill set in culinary will always be something I’ll have. I’m just excited about the next year couple years in terms of where my career and life will take me. I feel like I accomplished so much this past year or so and I did that off of a leap of faith and having drive that I do. That’s how I got to where am now and this journey is never easy. It comes with various challenges in many forms but one of the main things to overcome said challenges is to persist and know why you are doing what you do because that is what will keep you doing it. I’ve learned much along the way and there is much to still learn. Know you are enough and your gift is worthy of being seen.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First things, There would be alot of eating. The food scene in LA/Surrounding areas is pretty top tier. I particularly enjoyed Escala, Howlin Rays, Bumsan Organic Milk Bar, Tender Greens, Myung in Dumplings, Salt & Straw I could go on for two weeks worth of good eating! I’d take them to any one of them many beaches. Venice Beach, Santa Monica Beach/ Pier, and the Hollywood Sign/Park are all a must. There are plenty more places I have yet to check out myself.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First giving honor to God, who is the head of my life. In addition, there are several individuals I’d like to dedicate a shoutout to. I always give credit to Lauren & DJ Rhodes of Rhodes&Rhodes Productions for creating opportunities for artist like me and helping ignite my love for acting. I want to shoutout my icon of an acting coach, Jossie Harris Thacker who has been as great a teacher/mentor as she is a person. Lastly, huge shoutout to my amazing girlfriend who loves & supports me greatly and my mother who has my back in more ways than one.
