We had the good fortune of connecting with Ana Peccin, Itzetl Frausto and Yenia Angulo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ana Peccin, Itzetl Frausto and Yenia Angulo, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When you’re not seeing the product you want to buy already on the shelf, you have to go out there and create it yourself. Matrona Swim designs swimwear for loud, bold, and fun women with a focus on elevated quality and fit.

Our first season is inspired by the nostalgia of growing up in the early 2000s and was expressed with an exclusive custom print created by Lazyzoot, an international artist. The Kim top, a contoured scoop neck, and the Nina bottom, a classic string bikini, create a timeless first collection.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The concept of Matrona Swim started several years ago, with three eager coworkers all sharing an interest in swimwear, whether that be wearing them or designing them. The journey of season one was itself an exciting and challenging process. Coming from an engineering background, none of us were privy to swimwear vendors, manufacturers, or creating an online brand presence.

We’ve learned the ins and outs of the industry, and our favorite part has been building relationships with other creatives that are bringing a fresh and unique perspective to the table.

We want the world to know that loud, bold, and fun women go out there and create their own spaces. No need to wait for an invitation.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Los Angeles truly has something for everyone. I’d start the visit at Griffith Observatory so they can take in the sheer size of our city. Then, lunch at Carousel Restaurant in Hollywood or street tacos of course. You have to see the beautiful beaches of Santa Monica. I recommend staying south of the pier for a laid-back atmosphere. Then, without a doubt, the best shopping in the city is at Abbot Kinney near Venice. Don’t forget to stop for ice cream at Salt & Straw.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We’d like to dedicate our first shout-out to Roderick Johnson, creator of The Shop Los Angeles. Managing his own brand, working a full-time job, and developing our product all at the same time is no easy feat. We appreciate all your help, guidance, and fashion insider advice to help us with our brand.

Claire Bishara, the amazing photographer that we partnered with for our first photoshoot also deserves a shoutout. Her creative direction and professionalism turned our vision into reality.
