We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacques Derosena and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jacques, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I believe that it is important to take some risks, to get out of your comfort zone, to grow and open yourself up to possibilities that you never knew existed. It is not an easy thing to do depending on your personality, how you grew up and current circumstances but the rewards of discovering what you are capable of is worth it. My risks involve curiosity with due diligence so there is more strength in exploring adventures.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Similar to French oceanographer Jacques Cousteau , I am Haitian, French, Italian and Dominican. An explorer, inventor, filmmaker that leaves no stone unturned. From Producing Films, Acting, writing music in French Rap and Rhythm and blues. My upbeat attitude makes me see everything with an open canvas and its ability for you to start all over again. I was fortunate to be one of the Co-Executive Producers of the Academy Awards Eligible List Film: ‘Son Of The South’ directed by Barry Alexander Brown and Executive Produced by Spike Lee. Being a part of something moving, based on a true story and the legacy that it will leave. Attending the Cannes Film Festival for 9 years, the experience and all the exposure that it brings to many filmmakers from all over the world. I’m also proud of some of the other films that I helped produced and learned from, The characters I’ve portrayed on Television and Films and the Voice-Over roles that I get to perform. My First big role was on the HBO Television Series: The Wire. It was an incredible show to work on. Pursing an entertainment career or a passion can be challenging a t times but embracing some of your other talents can help you navigate the idle time in between and god willing, you’ll have a much fuller, richer life by not just keeping everything in a box. The smallest embers of the fire burn the longest. We all have goals and passion and every little step taken sets you on that course.
