We had the good fortune of connecting with Giuseppe Calvinisti and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Giuseppe, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Well, Risk has been and will always be a part of every person in their life. I see it as a normal process of existing. I’ll try to explain. Risk is an elemental part of growing and that risk achieves, (sometimes uncomfortable) goals. So, early man, risk their lives by hunting, I risk talking to this girl even though she might turn me down, I risk stepping into the karaoke platform at the local karaoke bar, I risk failing in that exam when I preferred having fun the whole semester, I risk not being happy if I do not pursue what makes me truly tick. So, after all my life being in the corporate world and having suppressed my love of expression in the arts, I risked it all by quitting and jumping into the world that I believe I was meant to live in. I still risk the fact that I might not succeed at the level that I envision my life to be in the long run, but I believe steadfastly that if I don’t risk these growing pains now, I will never truly fulfil my life’s goal. I owe it to myself to take this risk and never compromise and live with regrets.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
You know, I have always been fascinated by expression since it was hard for me to do so. I grew up an introvert kid, with very few friends, lots of curiosity and impressive worlds inside my imagination. My curiosity took me to begin exploring with paining, then music, sculpting and acting. Later on in my young adult life I veered towards a profession that would enable me to stay somewhat creative and follow the traditional life-ladder of “grow up and go make money” mentality . Art remained in the back burner and my spirit felt it. It wasn’t until 5 years ago, that I decided to let go of my fears and insecurities and dive head first into the creative waters after experiencing what I believe was a “burn-out”. It was a wakeup call that I wish I hadn’t waited so long to receive, knowing all too well that it would arrive at some point. Today, I can proudly say that I am a working artist and very exited for what amazing projects my future holds. I am a passionate artist that believes in the power of change, in taking risks and exploring new territories.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Knowing my kind of crew… we would have the best times exploring the city, walking along the cobblestone streets of the old port of Montreal, passing through the canal that takes us to the old trading route along the Saint Laurence river and stopping to have a drink at a local bar terrace (if in summer/fall), catch up and talk about our projects and life.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother. She showed me that life is meant to be lived and not to be kept in a box accumulating things, money and dust.
