We had the good fortune of connecting with Morgan L Chancelien and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Morgan L, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
One of my favorite quotes that stuck with me into my adult life, was given to me by the late Dr. Major D Lovett. ” The only love that you keep is the love that you give away” As a kid I used to pretend that I new what it meant, as I grew older I realized his words were so true. What I love the most about the quote is that, I’ve based my entire reputation on it. I wouldn’t be in the position I am now. If it wasn’t for the love and respect that I’ve given away countless times I’d be nowhere near where I am today. Im blessed to be able to see that love and respect make its way back.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a cinematographer out of Los Angeles. Television and Film has always been a calling for me, I used to believe that I could express my self infront of the camera. It wasn’t until I got behind the camera and I realized how much more I could leave my mark .What sets me apart from tother is the amount of knowledge I’ve been able to amass of the years and being able to implement that knowlege in ways many haven’t seen before. Every project that I have the honor of being apart is a one of one. I take time with each one so that in a way I’d stand out more. Being able to read body language or emotional cues that we as people all have, and then putting those raw emotion on film makes it more of an experience. Its a style that I’m proud to have take the time to perfect.

I got behind the camera because, again, I’m an actor at heart. I noticed the gaps of times that I had in between auditions. I figured while I am waiting for roles to come. Why don’t I create my own? Mixed with the spirit of entrepreneurship fueled by the pandemic I took a chance and created Chance Picture. Was it is easy? No. Plain and simple. I had to remove my emotion and get to work. Hours of editing, constant shooting, fully booked weeks, sometimes months in advance. Not including still trying to find ways to conduct my own personal life, which can be in shambles at times because of starting this line of work. However, I’ve loved every step of it. When you’re truly indulged in something that gives your purpose, that makes you truly happy? Nothing can keep you away from it, its a high that can’t be replicated and you’re the source.

There isn’t a way that I can explain everything that I have learned, because I am still learning. I’d be lying if I said that I had a total grasp over everything. Each day I learn something new about not only myself, but the world that I have come into. If I could give any advice to anyone on the fence about challenging and betting the odds? I’d tell them that the window of opportunity to become the best version of yourself is small, so small that it can blow right past you and you’d never know. Instead of letting fear of failure cripple you.. do it scared. Let that fear turn into consistency when that motivation dies out. I want the world to know that this world is yours to live, one day we are here and at a moments notice we’re not. With that time in between, make every dream that pops in your head come true. Believe it or not, those dreams and ideas chose you. Only you can bring them to life in your world. I plan on creating every dream that I have come true and you can hold me to that. Only the chosen can walk this path, if you’ve been so lucky to be one of those make sure to see it through. No one can can dictate how your path that is meant for you to walk.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Without a doubt I would have to shoutout George Washington Preparatory High School’s Film and Theatre Programs. It was there that I gained the confidence that I would need years later to chase this the dreams that were entrusted to me. I owe a huge debt of gratitude to all the faculty and staff in these programs they helped kids from all over hone their skills and providing classes that helped us all at the time really find purpose, I have multiple classmates who have pursued careers in Television & Film and they too owe it all to the PREP.
