We had the good fortune of connecting with Prisma Pantoja and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Prisma, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
The bigger the risk, the bigger the reward! Kinda cliché of me to say this, but life truly is all about taking the risks. Whether the outcome is what you wanted or not, God is always going to give you what you need when you need it. Take the risk and have faith in the process. Eventually you will figure it out and all the doubts will be figured out.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m definitely not where I want to be… but I can say I’ve come a long ways.

The art that comes from my brand is something that I hold close and dear. We decided we wanted to use the concept of reconstructing and recreating old pieces. We hand pick, customize and transform everything with love, specially made just for YOU. For example, we’ve patched old vintage tee’s onto sweatpants, made shorts out of jerseys or nascar tees, etc. The possibilities are limitless and we can literally get as creative as we want! I’m really into graphics as well. For a future collection I would love to use old designs and artwork that I’ve had in notebooks from years ago and finally see them come to life. You can say that this brand has been a long time coming, I just didn’t know it at the time.

Some of the challenges I’ve had in radio is of course being a woman. A lot of males in the industry and even some of the companies and businesses won’t take you seriously because of that. Its weird. You have to prove yourself that much more. But I will say that the reward is worth it. You have a platform to give anybody a voice. You can use it the greater good if you allow yourself to. You really just gotta work hard when it comes to obstacles like that and understand that what you’re doing ultimately will not be in vain.

One of the lessons I’ve learned that I try to really put to use every day, is to never limit myself. To always work on my craft. Even when theres moments of doubt, remind myself that I have purpose in whatever I’m doing.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This question is right up my alley. I’m from a really small town, a lot of the simple things in LA seems like a lot to us.

First, we would start any day off with a hike to enjoy some of LA ‘s scenery and to get a nice workout in. Of course we have to do brunch! One of my go-to spots is EAT in Hollywood. Im there for the bottomless mimosas and they have a really good avocado toast as well. Check them out!

I’ll usually have a homie or a friend throughout the week having a pop shop and/or an event to go support. I would love to take my best friend to experience that. There’s always good food, drinks and its the perfect place to network.

Riding bikes on Venice beach is a must and then head to Nighthawk for lunch. If we’re up for some desert ice cream at AFTERS on the boardwalk is where its at. On a chill night throughout the week we can hit the rooftop Cinema club. That place is always a vibe and shows good movies.

I’ve recently become a member of YELP Elite, which is a huge accomplishment for me because im such a foodie. There’s usually weekly events or food spots to hit that they send me to so I would love to put my best friend onto that so she can experience the YELP culture in LA. It’s really a thing out here!

For nightlife, it depends. Is she getting cute and wants to mingle? Or is she tryna get ratchet? There’s places for both. WEHO is guaranteed a good night out. Dancing + drinking and who doesn’t love the gays????? I definitely wanna make sure we get into a Lakers/Dodgers game. Gotta have the Micheladas at the Dodgers game! Also, theres this place in East LA called El Mercadito. Full of hispanic culture! Lots of vendors, food, sweats + treats and the best aguas frescas! This place is so dope to me and you’ll always feel welcomed. Of course we gotta hit a museum, The broad always has some good stuff and the HAMMER Museum in Westwood is a vibe.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost I would like to thank Shyst, who gave me a voice and opportunity at my first hosting gig in LA. He brought me on as a co-host for our previous show on DASH radio. It gave me the confidence and push to be myself on air. Second, my sister who is my partner in our brand — P.S. I love that I get to do this with her and we are creating something that gets to be our own. And last, whole family and support system back home in New Mexico. Without them I definitely would have never had the courage to be out here on my own. And although it gets tough without them in the same city, they always hold me down and I know I can count on them for anything.
