We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Orionn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jordan, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
According to my mother, “You already know the answers, yes or no.” She has taught me to be unafraid to ask for what I desire and for what I want because there is only one response that can result from my question, yes or no. I appreciate this quote because it inspires boldness and reminds me to be unapologetic.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As an artist, I have taken the responsibility to release conscious music that showcases my human experiences. I grew up listening to storytellers, and since I was younger I’ve wanted to tell my stories melodically. Consequently, my creative process has required me to be vulnerable which I must admit has been challenging at times. However, the times that I’ve fully relinquished fear, doubt, or anxiety I have been in my “creative bag” and those are the moments that I’m proud of within my artistry.
This path that I’ve been on throughout my musical career has been a journey to say the least. But a journey that has placed me in rooms with established and accomplished artists. Having the opportunity to be in those rooms is still surprising to be completely honest. That being the case, I feel so grateful and proud to have been asked to take up space in rooms or sit at the table as an artist. Of course this journey has not been easy, but the entertainment industry is where I want to be and where I’ve always seen myself in some capacity. Especially as an artist that would like to inspire full transparency and representation that in my opinion is lacking and/or not being promoted heavily currently.
Challenges are inevitable of course, and honestly I’m still figuring out how to overcome them truly. However, thus far my advice would be to continue focusing on your end goal, but don’t be so focused that you neglect yourself. As well as remembering to acknowledge your successes and one of the most important aspects for me is surrounding myself with individuals who are unafraid to challenge me when I am wrong, and conversely celebrate me during my wins.
Major lessons that I’ve learned throughout the years are being protective about my reputation and my character, and absolutely not compromising my values or morals. As well as the importance of planning and being intentional about my desires, and not comparing my journey with anyone else’s.
Lastly, what I want the world to know about me, my brand, and my story is that everything I do is coming from a genuine place. I simply want to leave my mark and inspire people who choose to follow me while I’m navigating through this world. I want my contribution in the industry to spark discussions, provoke thought, and elicit change all while making some really good music.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My city is small though there are hidden treasures! As soon my bestie arrives, I would have to introduce her to, The Bloom Coffee Roasters; I was introduced to boba a year ago and ever since that time I have been obsessed, taro boba to be exact. So, I would take my girl to go sip some boba and catch up. After that I would suggest we go to do a fun activity, such as The Escape Room. The first day would be chill, giving us the opportunity to be reunited. The following day though would be much more eventful. Early in the morning we would go to The Waffle Den then after that we would drive out of town to a neighboring city, Austin, Texas! There are so many activities to do in Austin. I would introduce her to The Blanton Museum of Art which houses over 21,000 pieces of comprehensive collections of art in Central Texas. After that we would go to Lady Bird Lake since I am imagining it is a bright and sunny day. We would rent e-scooters and go riding. I’m also assuming we’ll have our swimsuits under our clothes so that we’ll be ready to go paddle boarding at the lake. The third day of her visit I would like to use the whole morning cooking a large breakfast, as you can see, I love to eat; and watch our favorite series currently, Bling Empire. As the day continues I would take her downtown and we would find dope spots to take pictures; I love capturing moments. After that is all said and done, I would drive us to a local ice cream shop, Gati for a cool refresher to talk and of course laugh some more. The fourth day I think we’ll decide to stay in wearing nothing but our pajamas and bonnets. We would order food from one of my favorite family-owned food trucks Salters and have a movie marathon. For my besties last and final day, we would skip breakfast for brunch at this family-owned restaurant Lively Coffee House and Bistro. After brunch we would head back to Austin for some shopping at the Domain. Considering we might get tired from all the walking and shopping we would stop by Velvet Taco to grab some tacos and later in the evening we would go to Top Golf and play a few rounds to end the night off.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Leaders in my community, such as Dr. Rodney Duckett, Levallois Hamilton, Luvina Ann Norwood-Sabree, and Dr. Kerry-Ann Zamore to name a few have been pillars in my community. They have all welcomed, encouraged, and cultivated my talents. Such as singing, acting, modeling, and public speaking. These opportunities have forced me to come out of my box and assisted in my growth as a creative. Additionally, my parents who have always been my biggest supporters. They’ve invested in my dreams in all aspects and have motivated me through my ups and encouraged through the downs.
