Meet Ryan Royster | Multi-hyphenate creative & Ethical Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ryan Royster and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ryan, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
I work a lot. That’s a reality for me. Like most of us, I tried to focusing on work life balance but I never fully connected with the concept and I’ve actually grown to reject it altogether. Instead viewing work and life as 2 opposing forces that I need to balance, I now just look to create a well-balanced life.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Last Supper Society is a culinary collective and brand activation agency that creates content and experiences at the intersection of food and culture. We do really dope things that unlock the community-building magic of breaking bread together. Our growth over the last 3 years has been crazy especially since we launched just prior to shelter in place in California. The pandemic forced us to jump out of the airplane with only our creativity as parachutes. We had to figure it out and that desperation gave birth to a drive and ideas beyond what we could’ve imagined. We really built a food experiences brand predicated on gathering together in a pandemic when nobody was allowed together. WE REALLY DID THAT!
Also, to let you in on a little secret – food is really just the vehicle… a Trojan-horse of sorts. Food is the most powerful social artifact so we chose it as our weapon of choice to build community.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Sacramento is a dope city and super foodie city on the low. Eating your way through Sac is a great way to experience it.
– Tower Cafe is one of my favorite breakfast spots and has the best outdoor courtyard. It’s a little oasis in the middle of Broadway with trees, flowers, and a flowing water fountain. Be careful who you go with though…it’s easy to fall in love on that patio.
– For lunch we’ll dip off the grid and head to South Sac for the fire Vietnamese food in Little Saigon. Take your pick from one of the mom and pop restaurants like Quan Nem Ninh Hoa where you can roll your own spring rolls. The more hood the spot the better
– About now we’re getting thirsty so let’s grab a glass of wine and some oysters at Franquette or some natty wine at Ro Sham Beaux
– For the night move I’m taking you to our spot, Tiger Restaurant & Lounge, for dinner and big vibes. The Wagyu Beef & Broccoli on the Fall menu is so good it’s almost a joke. After dinner we stay and play at “Tiger After Dark” where you never know what surprise acts or guest DJs might show up.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m constantly inspired by people who lead with curiosity. By those who give themselves permission and hold space to practice it. By those who build environments that foster it. I’ve surrounded myself with these people…my friends, my colleagues, family…people who imagine things that don’t exist and move past fears and biases to embrace new things. I’ve accepted the challenge of staying curious, preserving and safeguarding that child-like quality, and harnessing it to effectuate change. Shoutout to my parents for letting me be a curious child who asked way too many questions.
