Meet Edgar Esteves | Director / Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Edgar Esteves and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Edgar, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Authenticity – Growing up in a Spanish household, it’s always about family. So I decided to run my company the same way. Educating my family members and friends about the business and allowing them to find their passion within my own.
My ability to collaborate with anyone — when I was coming up, I didn’t have the luxury of saying “no” to jobs or being “selective” on the projects I wanted to do. I took on everything — the good, the bad, and the ugly. Those experiences taught me how to work with all different types of people, clients, and companies. Leave no money on the table!
My willingness to dive into unknown territory — I’m curious to learn about other cultures and people whose experiences may shape them to look at things differently than I do. I love challenging myself with the unknown and coming out educated on a new-learned topic.
I want the world to know that I was undocumented for 27 years of my life. That means I couldn’t work, get a driver’s license, go to a public university, or accept scholarship money. I won’t lie, that made life very difficult to be able to get where I am today, but you must always remember that it’s all about the journey. I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way because those hardships have shaped me into who I am today, and I feel more ready than ever to conquer the world in front of me!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from others is my versatility. I always put my signature spin on all the videos that I direct and produce, from combining A.I. technology with film to using CGI to birth never-before-seen worlds. It’s all a result of my hustler mentality and being a student at the University of YouTube earlier in my career when I didn’t have any budget and had to rely on my imagination to get creative.
I’m super energized about a project I just did for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ and collaborating with global superstars on a visual for one of the world’s biggest cultural phenomenon. Over 1 Billion people watch the World Cup and it’s pretty badass that I get to be the director behind some of their biggest anthems while bringing cultures together in a creative way from one part of the world to the other.
I got to where I am by not only being the creative that brings the vision to life but also the entrepreneur behind the scenes that cuts the check. Art and business go hand to hand, I just happened to put in the work to get good at both (I’m still learning). Was it easy? Hell no but I asked for it and knew if I kept pushing every day toward my dreams they would happen and they did.
The lessons I learned along the way were to focus on what’s in my control and to move at my own pace. Sometimes you’ll work weeks on an idea that you’re so passionate about and the artist starring in your video shows up 9 hours late and completely throws off your vision. It’s not your fault, you do your best, you keep it pushing and you don’t beat yourself up over it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is a great question to ask because when I’m scouting for locations when I shoot in LA, I’m always making mental notes of certain geography, buildings, spaces, etc. I’m taking you to El Matador State Park in Malibu for its picturesque beaches, Grand Central Market in Downtown to try all types of food, The Broad Museum to get inspired/ hang out and Santi Alley to do some shopping and get tacos!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shout out to my Mom and Dad. The reason I am the way I am. Thank you for all the sacrifices you made for my sister & I to be able to have the life we have now. Shoutout to y’all!
