We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica deBen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
When my father’s death was in the news, I remember a neighbor said, ‘He was kind. He would give you the shirt off his back.’ I hope my Dad’s legacy lives on in me and my kids. My Dad lived a little outside of the norm and he helped people even when it wasn’t convenient. I hope to be remembered the same way.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a makeup artist and member of IATSE Local 706 Makeup Artist & Hairstylist Guild. My credits include The Walking Dead, Euphoria and Keeping Up with the Kardashians.

CBS Survivor Fiji is also on my resume. I wasn’t the makeup artist, I was a castaway on that. My close friends tease me about getting voted off first on Survivor!

The client I admire most is Dick Van Dyke. I travelled with his family to Washington DC when he received his Kennedy Center Honor.

I’m known for doing waterproof, smudge proof tattoo covers and for my airbrush makeup. Airbrush makeup is like an Instagram filter in real life. I show all these makeup techniques on my YouTube.

When I’m not on set, I’m on YouTube doing makeovers. I get emails daily from people wanting makeovers so that keeps me busy!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First stop would be Malibu Cafe for lunch on their lawn. Then we’d relax with a Hot Stone Massage at Burke Williams at The Village Topanga. Dinner would be at EMC raw bar downstairs. The next morning, I’d treat you to hair cut and color at celebrity stylist Joseph Chase’s hair studio nestled in the Hollywood Hills. Lunch would be a crispy rice bowl from Sweetgreen. Next we’d visit my friend & celebrity photographer Russell Baer at his outdoor studio in Santa Monica. I’d airbrush you before you take a few pics.

I actually did this whole itinerary with one of my makeovers – a woman named Royia who survived the Oklahoma City bombing. You can watch it on my YouTube!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to thank Kristen Eykel. I’m part of her meditation community and it’s had a powerful impact on my life.
