We had the good fortune of connecting with SoReally Ray and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi SoReally, what do you want your legacy to be?
For starters, to have a life worth remembering would be great. Honestly, I hope my legacy reflects that I made every attempt to make the world around me a little better, brighter, and hopeful. I strive to show myself and others that anything is possible and that you don’t have to limit yourself to the expectations that society has placed upon you. Naturally, I also wish my legacy to be one of healing. As a doctor, healing on a physiological level is at the core of what we do. But, as an artist, healing is my focus on the metaphysical level.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Well, I like to refer to myself as Dr. Dre if he were actually a real doctor. I am physician/radiologist by day and a rapper, producer, and label owner by night. My brand is focused on quality, authenticity, and honesty. I am most excited about sharing my art with the world and watching people have a genuine interaction with the content. The best art is often polarizing forcing the audience to pick a side.

My journey to this point has definitely been anything but easy. Early on I made a pact with myself that if I had to couch surf to my dreams, I at the very least wished to own the couch. While at times, I have questioned whether or not this position meant I was more fearful, overtime I have come to realize the value of striving for ownership and becoming one’s own boss.
The lessons of discipline are invaluable and can never be taken from you; burned on your heart.

My biggest challenge is balancing the time for medicine, music, and family. All three are extremely demanding and command a certain amount of time and singular focus. I rely on my faith, the understanding and support of family, and also self compassion to persevere.

Some of the lessons I’ve learned thus far include obedience and humility in following the calling that God has placed upon you. Failure is indeed the best humility and opportunity for improvement. Investment in self care is crucial. Also, stay improving and honing your craft.
