Meet Federica Rizzo | Dancer, Choreographer , Movement Artist & Dance Instructor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Federica Rizzo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Federica, what do you attribute your success to?
I think the most important factor behind my success is my authenticity. I always did my best to be just myself in my art. I got a good life lesson from my mentors when I studied dance in in Nyc which was: “Never compare yourself to others” I always remembered this .We all are different humans, artists with so many different paths. In my dance career I tried and I am still trying to create something mine, unique, trying to just be myself. Of course, artists have to find inspiration so we often look into other people’s works but at the end you have to put yourself, your feelings in your works.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a dancer, choreographer and dance instructor but I like to say that I am just a creative and a movement artist. I dance hip hop, street jazz, heels and contemporary fusion the most but I like every kind of dance styles and I am always open to learn other different styles. Since I got here in LA, like every artist here I guess, I’ve started working also as a model and actress. Artists are all so different that is what makes Art beautiful , so I can’t say what sets me apart from others, I just try to express my feelings and my thoughts through movements in different concept scenarios and in all my works I try to be myself. I am proud of myself to having the chance to work in my country but also here which is a dream for all the creatives. I had to go through a lot of challenges in my life, especially the personal challenges, I lost my dad when I was just started to work as a professional dancer and even if you try everything you can to go through such a difficult moments , your personal life can negatively effect your career. But, from these challenges I was able to find the strength to do even more. Maybe, without these pains I wasn’t here today. My passion for dance, the love of family and friends helped go though these challenges. I am creating a new dance company to have the chance to show people how dance has no labels, I’ d like to create a community of unconventional dancers to be able to express with our steps and movements people’s truth, that’s what I’d like the world to know and see.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would like to take them to all the flea markets in La: Silverlake, Los Feliz, or Smorgasburg in Downtown to eat, I love vintage and I love food shopping in local markets. As an artist I love watching burlesque shows or to listen jazz music in clubs like Bathtub Gin, Bar Lis and more. I really love hang out in areas such as Silverlake and Los Feliz or the Arts District in Downtown. I think Malibu, Manhattan Beach or Redondo Bach are the perfect areas to take a break and relax.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people who helped and still are helping me in my career, from my mentors including so many dancers and choregraphers, dance studios in Italy where I first took class as a student and than I became a regular teacher there. The first recognition is for all my family that is still supporting me in such a difficult choices, it hasn’t been easy to stay away for so long for work. I am thankful for my first Italian dance crew, “CDM”, they have been a family much more than just a dance group for shows or competitions and it’s with them that I started work as a choreographer. I am more than grateful also to my new friends, colleagues that are supporting me on my new journey here in the States and all the artists I got to work with in the past year, they have been so inspiring, one of the most inspiring is my colleague Gianluca Todisco, is a renowned singer from Italy based in LA , his music has established in Italy and abroad, he gave me the privilege to create a movement video for his success “Hollywood”, I ‘ve also collaborated to create his music videos “Brute” and “Paradiso” it was a pleasure work on set for the first time as a movement coach.
