We had the good fortune of connecting with Marilyn Aracely and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marilyn Aracely, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Since a young age I was always intrigued with tapping into my creativity. As a child, I was passionate about art and would enter art contests at USC or any given opportunity. Years later, my mother taught me to sew and I learned the art of making nothing to something. Eventually, this led to fashion. Although I always loved fashion, I didn’t always know what I was doing. I started working as a personal stylist on Sunset Blvd. It was there I learned fashion was my passion. Silly, I know but it’s true! Eventually, I retained all the knowledge I had learned from working with small businesses. I wanted to encompass that for myself. I believe it’s imperative to keep your creativity alive regardless of what others may think of your ideas. Therefore, I made myself a promise and stopped referring to my dreams as one day and began referring to them as now.
What should our readers know about your business?
Everie Couture is special and unique because the inspiration came from depression. That even in the toughest times you can find beauty in the weakness. I created Everie because when you look good you feel good. Everie or better said “every” outfit, aesthetic, and look you craft, matters. It is your special signature. Anyone can wear the same jumpsuit but it’s the style that says only me and that is beautiful. I also enjoy sending handwritten notes to all our customers and adding spontaneous freebies so they feel loved and excited, it’s important to spread happiness! My business journey has not been easy, in fact it’s been the scariest thing I’ve ever done! I’m an overthinker, it’s easy to shut yourself down. Therefore I made it my mission to always push myself to be a better version of myself. I started my business when I was 23 years old, all while pursuing my bachelors and working a full-time job. I realized that there would never be a “right time” to begin my dreams and the reality of that thought scared me. Always challenge your fears. In all honesty, most entrepreneurs learn as we go, everything is trial and error. I had zero knowledge of social media. I was a shy introverted entrepreneur who was willing to push her own boundaries. When you step out of your comfort zone you evolve into an unrecognizable force. Despite what anyone else might think, what matters most is that you never stop believing in yourself or your dreams. You need to believe in yourself more than anyone else. Everie Couture is my pride and joy because it exemplifies that nothing is impossible.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ooo! You have a plethora of options from downtown Culver City, DTLA rooftops with yummy food and sweets to Japan Town in West LA for some delicious Asian cuisines. I find hidden restaurants with cute aesthetics the most enjoyable personally. Like Farmhouse Thai (not such a secret anymore), a beautiful restaurant with great drinks! If you like secluded but still lively and vibrant this will be suiting. I would also suggest Settebello Pizzeria Napoletana for some authentic Italian pizza, you won’t be disappointed. While you’re in the area of Pasadena, there is a beautiful overlook of the city on Angeles Crest Highway. On another day, you can never go wrong with a nice drive down PCH and end with a beautiful sunset in Bluff Cove. The beautiful thing about this city is the variety there is in food, scenery from hikes and beaches, and events.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family, the backbone that lifts me up, sees the inspiration when I don’t, and motivates me to keep going when times are tough. My family means absolutely everything to me. They are a tremendous factor as to why I continue to push myself while being a full-time student (graduating in summer 2023) while also running a business at the same time. They are the ones who remind me nothing is impossible, you can attain all the goals and dreams you think of. Your support system is absolutely everything, I couldn’t be more grateful and blessed. I think it’s highly important to also acknowledge the people in your life who make an impact despite how minimal it may seem. I would also like to add that my community has been extremely welcoming. I’ve come across many kindhearted entrepreneurs and creators. It’s because of their ongoing drive that fuels my passion. I appreciate the engagement because it creates a safe space on social media. Jera, owner of Dose of Jera is a phenomenal person. I’m thankful for her support, uplift, and the encouragement we both have shared. Before I used to think social media was a toxic place but truly it’s perspective. It’s because of social media that I’ve been able to connect with so many amazing people. Lastly, shoutout to all the people working making their dreams into reality. You’re amazing, you inspire so many individuals without even realizing. Never forget your potential.
