Meet Gianluca Todisco | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Gianluca Todisco and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gianluca, what do you attribute your success to?
Through my music I try to share my deepest experiences, visions, advices, that I want people to hear and to reflect on it, because my personal experiences may help other people to overcome a situation I’ve already lived, maybe because in that particular moment they don’t have the strength to face it and being able to talk about it, so they don’t have to overcome this alone.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My name is Gianluca Todisco, I’m originally from Rome (Italy) currently living in Los Angeles (USA). Since I was very young I was always into art, showing love and passion for music, singing, dancing, writing and painting.
When I was 4 years old, I started to take singing and dance classes, followed up by classic piano lessons.
After my graduation from “La Sapienza” University in Rome in the Fashion and Performing Arts department, I decided to move to the USA, first to New York and then to Los Angeles to pursuit my passion for music.
Since I was very little I always wanted to make music in every way it was possible. Everything would become a microphone and every place would become a stage to perform. I wanted to study and get better in every way, singing, dancing, performing. I decided to move to the USA, for these reasons, because seeing new places, meeting new people, having different experiences is how you can grow artistically and also personally.
I hope to inspire others through my art, my music, my lyrics, my visuals, my choreographies.
I personally direct my whole productions, from the music, the lyrics, the visuals, the stage creations, the choreographies, since I’m also a dancer and choreographer who have work with many artists.
Through my productions I try to share my deepest experiences, visions that I want people to hear and to reflect on it, because my personal experiences may help other people to overcome a situation I’ve already lived, maybe because in that particular moment they don’t have the strength to face it and being able to talk about it, so they don’t have to overcome this alone.
Communicating with people through my music, my lyrics, my visuals is the part I love the most because they can see themselves in the words I use and in the themes I talk about in my songs.
Since the beginning it wasn’t easy, but this allowed me to learn a lot and also grow, so I think the challenge was/is worth it!
My new single “Hollywood” was written and produced the song in Los Angeles and I performed it on preview at The Hill Studio in Hollywood.
The drop of the song on the streaming platforms was very exciting because of the ‘movement video’ created by the Italian choreographer Federica Rizzo, who lives in LA and it created a very interesting hype around the song on social media anticipating the official visual for the song.
The creation of this song was very important for me, especially in these times, because it shares a strong message of self awareness and believing in ourselves, exactly as we are, taking care of our self esteem and the balance between the body and the mind.
Walking confidently in our lives, like a star on the red carpet of Hollywood, feeling happy and free to show our body shapes, colors, sexual orientations choices, not allowing the social stereotypes to influence or modify our essence.
The official visual was created in collaboration with the video maker Luca Marincione X Marincione Ph and it is a praise to love ourselves and our uniqueness in a positive way. I artistically directed and choreographed the visual, since I’m also a dancer/choreographer.
I took my University degree in the “Fashion and Performing Arts” department at La Sapienza University in Rome, so this background was used in the production of this visual that was inspired by the ’90 fashion, with the designers who were bringing on the runways very interesting and surreal shapes.
The stage creation and few of the outfits in the visual were created by myself.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Definitely I would bring them to Silver Lake, my favorite part of the town! The energy and the mystery you feel over there is unique! I’m a guy who really walks a lot so definitely I would bring them all around the area, having our coffee break at the gorgeous Intelligentsia Coffee, I literally fell in love with the place, the architecture of the building, the color palettes and the positive energy you feel all around is fantastic! Also, you have the opportunity to meet a lot of interesting and artistic people who can create with you new projects!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family and friends. They supported me on on my music and my journey of self discovery, giving me the opportunity to grow artistically and personally.
And of course a lot of “inspiring” teachers, songwriters, writers, cinematographers, books who helped me to shape my vision and learn a lot.
