We had the good fortune of connecting with Sheri Weitz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sheri, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
My favorite quote is actually the name of my business- “Move to Wellness!” which is a call to action.

Movement is health…. whether it be the smallest act of simply breathing in and out, or hiking ten miles.

Movement is joy! For those clients who have lost their sense of joy in movement, I help them get in touch with their inner child again. Toddlers naturally move and play, and they aren’t concerned with how many calories they’re burning, how their bodies look while moving, or how well they’re “performing.”

When people take time to walk, dance, perform a downward facing dog or jump on a bike, they’re taking the time for joy and wellbeing.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a functional nutritionist, Registered Dietitian and Wellness coach. What differentiates myself and other nutritionists is my unique background combing medical nutrition therapy with holistic nutrition. I’m also highly intuitive, and never address two people in the same way. Each patient who walks through my office doors gets treated as a “study of one.” They are a unique individual who is treated with respect and care. After being in the wellness and medical field for decades I have learned to trust my instincts and go the extra mile for my clients.  I’m also a Cardio Dance and Zumba instructor, and lead special events, often collaborating with yoga instructors. I’m also co-hosting my first retreat: Retreat into Joy in January, 2023.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d say let’s grab some bikes and ride from Santa Monica to Redondo Beach. What a beautiful ride! Then we would go to the Grove and sample the food around the farmers market. We would also go to Palos Verdes and hike along the bluffs. Next we would go to Malibu pier and gaze at the ocean as we eat fresh seafood. And of course we wouldn’t miss the freak and artistic show at Venice Beach!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Dr. Sarah Hurvitz at UCLA saved my life when I faced Stage 3 Breast Cancer. Their clinical trial also allowed me to receive chemo without losing my hair and I was able to continue to teach dance during my treatment. I’ve had many career mentors. My primary functional nutrition mentor is Nan Borchardt, a Kansas City dietitian who is a genius when it comes to functional nutrition and Nutrigenomics- the study of our genes and how we can turn the good ones on and the “bad” ones off.  My Zumba and Cardio Dance mentor is Tor Cambell, an extremely talented dancer, choreographer and director. When I first saw him teaching and said “I want to do that!” he said…. “well you can!” Here I am 9 years later loving teaching Cardio Dance more than ever, and my following and confidence have continued to grow. My newest obsession is teaching Zumba at all inclusive tropical resorts! This is truly my bliss.
