We had the good fortune of connecting with Sam Watson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sam, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
There’s a quote that I keep with me everywhere I go. “If you are prepared for the yes but not for the no, then you aren’t ready at all.” That quote has lead me through some hard times. It kind of molded me into someone that isn’t afraid of rejection. It’s going to happen to all of us. That doesn’t mean that it’s the end of the world if someone says no to you. The only way it would be the end of your world is if you give up.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I took music seriously when I was sixteen years old. If I had a chance to go back in time and talk to the younger me, I’d tell him that he’s going to be great in all that he does musically. He’s going to become a mentor, a friend to so many artists who were in need of help, one hell of a studio engineer and one of the coolest singers out there. There will be times when you think you’re not good enough but it’s not the end. He will take losses and life intended but will gain so much more from those losses. And the music will speak his story loud and proud. Keep going and never stop.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
You can’t start off the week without breakfast. There’s a place called The Bomber located in Ypsilanti, Michigan. I call it your cheap IHOP but the food is worth it. They open early in the morning then close around 2pm or 3pm every day so you gotta check in before they close. Of course, if you’re music inclined, I know people who own studios so that’s already a given. There’s a multitude of Detroit clubs we could go to celebrate the night. Anyone in Detroit would know what I’m talking about. There’s always Bahama Breeze which is a Hawaiian restaurant. You can’t go anywhere without checking out the movie theaters around the city too. There’s so much to offer.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Of course the list is long but to name a few, thank you to my parents, grandparents, my friends in Tribal Regime, teachers who believed in me when I was younger & my fiancée.
