Meet Tale Linh Do | Storyboard Artist and Animator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tale Linh Do and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tale, can you tell us about an impactful book you’ve read and why you liked it or what impact it had on you?
It’s been a little over a year now, but 4000 Weeks by Oliver Burkeman was one of those timely reads that hit home for me. It addressed topics that were on my mind at the time, but in too vague a form to act on.
The book’s thesis was in essence “There’s nothing wrong with being a simple, mortal human. Attempting to be more than that is what’s foolish.” Recognizing natural limits as a compass, rather than a setback, allowed me to let go of some unhelpful expectations I didn’t know I was clinging to.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I cherish that I still wake up excited about what I get to do most days. I think storytelling is a lot about surprising our audiences. We’re trying to find new sides to things that others might take for granted, find boring or, most importantly for me, feel hopeless about. The job can involve deep dives into all kinds of topics, but because it also involves communicating them to others (and failing a lot on the way!), I think it’s helped me grow as a human, too.
As for challenges, not all thoughts that come during this grand, epic search for meaning are fun to sit with alone. I’m part of the gang who looks forward to working on-location again because it makes stuff like brainstorming or remembering to eat lunch embarrassingly easier.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We’d probably spend the week checking out Joshua Tree and local canyon hikes! The other place I would point out is the newly opened Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. You don’t need to be a film buff to enjoy some of the famous film costumes on display, so it feels like anyone could have a good time there.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Yes, community is where it’s all at, isn’t it? It’s so tough to pick just one – but for any artist looking for others to grow together with, Zeet Studio Sketch group (https://www.instagram.com/stories/zeet_studio_sketch) and Warrior Painters (https://www.warriorartcamp.com/) are two active communities I’d recommend! They’re founded by some of the most disciplined artists around.
